Hey everyone! So I have the following equipment; -Genesis Model 1 -Mega CD Model 2 (PAL) -Everdrive MD (firmware v13, latest OS) Without the Everdrive you would have to add a region switch to your Genesis for the PAL CD unit to work. I was told I could use Russell's Region Free BIOS to make the Genesis work with the Mega CD without doing any hardware modifications. When combined with a PAL Megadrive, the Mega CD works fine. The LED blinks and the game loads. However, when I want to use the Mega CD in combination with the Genesis (and the Region Free BIOS), the LED won't blink and the game doesn't load. Looking at the info in the Everdrive menu, it clearly says it detects a European Mega CD unit. Am I doing something wrong? I really want to play my US Sega CD games in 60hz. (Hope I don't have to go looking for a Sega CD...)
You'd be better off getting the region free BIOS burned to an EEPROM and putting it in place of the original.
Nope, it should work too... But honestly, you will have a better time putting the BIOS on the console as you free the cartridge slot to use it with a SAVE RAM cart. Some games make big saves and allow you to save within maps (Shinning force CD is a example) when you have a save ram cart. That's the whole point of having a region free CD BIOS vs Everdrive.
For me, it seems to work with some games but others have issues or won't work at all. I also have a European Mega CD II so I'm in the same boat pretty much. However, I do plan to perform a BIOS mod when I get around to it.
Thanks for the input everyone! The setup I have doesn't work for the games I tried. Getting a BIOS mod it is
