I recently bought a genesis model 1 at a garage sale, it was filthy, really gross. So I opened it up and completely scrubbed it and right away noticed a large amount of rust and corrosion in certain parts of the metal. After I cleaned it out I plugged it in to test it. The plugs for both rc input and power were tough to wriggle in.
The only picture I get is a grainy, distorted black and white image. It changes slightly when I wiggle the power cable which tells me that's probably the problem right?
Any help would be great appreciated.

How are you connecting it to the TV? RF? Try getting a different lead (assume you can't use RGB, so composite) and see if it's any better.

Clean the motherboard with 70%+ rubbing alcohol, as well as the contacts. Buy a new power jack (5.5mm, 2.1mm female barrel) and connect red and white wires to correct polarity. Replace all capacitors. Enjoy.

Ok, It was the RF. I plugged in AV cables and it worked fine, although I noticed my reset button doesn't work. I'm starting to wonder if this thing is worth fixing.

RF really doesn't matter. Nor is the reset button critical. You could squirt some switch cleaner in it and see if it works, though.
