Just recently I went to my grandparent's for thanksgiving and brought my genesis along. When I got back home I found out I had forgotten my power supply. :crying: Anyways, I am now using a 12 volt 1 amp power supply. the led will light but no picture. What is going on?
Speaking without knowing the specs on a oem power supply for it i'd say the 1amp isn't enough and it needs more. You might have more luck trying to rig it up with an old power supply from a pc. My genesis was found dead in a basement some 6-7 years back. (too much humidity it seems) Strange thing is I don't even remember what the power supply looked like, and if asked to recall i'd have just thought there was a power cord XD
I now know EXACTLY what is wrong. The PSU I was using was 12 volts AC. Not DC, but AC. I plugged in a different PSU and it works fine now. I AM EXTREMELY LUCKY. And that is why you should always check your PSU thoroughly.
Lucky indeed, AC could have killed the 7805's... MD2s have a protection diode so if you manage to shove AC in it, it won't harm anything
Just don't try that with a Sega CD and bypass the fuse with an even larger fuse after you blow three of them. You'll find out that you have fried the laser and melted large amounts of solder inside.... It wasn't me I swear!
