I just bought a Genesis 2 at a garage sale for $10. Aside from Phantasy Star IV and Shining Force 2, what are some other good RPGs?

    Landstalker if you wan't a zeldaish action/rpg

The sega CD is where the Lunar series is at along with a few other RPG gems, so I suggest picking up that addon as well.

Beyond Oasis is another good action/"RPG", the more traditional RPGs are pretty lame on Genesis.

Crusader of Centy is a real good one you should try. Just form looking at the screens you can see the Zelda influence, but it stands alone as a unique action rpg.

If you dig strategy, Warsong is a good title (and a port of one of the Langrisser games to boot.) I have a particular fondness for Dungeons and Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun as it's based on Basic D&D rules, pre-WOTC. The Genesis also has the best version of Pirates! Gold on any non-PC device, which was a cool sandbox RPG before it became a cliche.

I second the Beyond Oasis/Story of Thor recommendation, one of my all time favorites.

Shadowrun, OF COURSE! How could I forget the magical, gun toting goodness of Shadowrun? Much better than SNES title.

Not sure how good the actual game is, since I haven't had time to play it, but you could add Beggar Prince to the list.

I second both Story of Thor, and my personal favourite, Soleil (Crusader of Centy), the first RPG I've ever played. Light Crusader is another great RPG.

I'm pretty sure there's only a Mega Drive version of the first part of the series (Beyond Oasis/The Story of Thor for MegaDrive/Genesis-VC and Legend of Oasis/The Story of Thor 2 for Saturn).
