I have a model 1 Sega genesis hooked up together with a model 1 Sega CD and a 32x. Its worked fine for me until the other day. Now when I switch it on, the red LED lights up but doesn't do anything after that. Occasionally, when I turn it on, the ready and access LEDs on the Sega CD light up quickly, then turn off. I tested the setup with a different Genesis and everything works fine.

You mean without any attachments? No. I think when this happened, I didn't know where my cables were for it (since the 32x uses model 2 cables). I'll see if I can find them and I'll try that.

Well if you don't have the 32x cables the 32x games will just look weird (you'll probably just have backgrounds and no sprites), I'm not sure if Genesis games would show anything.

Read what he said again. He IS using 32X cables. He hasn't tried it on its own, because he can't find his STANDARD cables.

Yeah, try that and see what happens - it should be the same, pointing to a fault in the Genesis.

From there, it's a case of basic fault finding - start by checking where you do and don't have power on the board.

OK I guess the title of the thread is misleading. The genesis DOES power on, but games don't run. The red power LED lights up and a video signal is being sent to the TV, but games don't actually boot. It doesn't show the "licensed by..." screen or anything like that, just black. I can tell a signal is being sent to the TV because when there is no signal, the TV displays the time and "video 2" and when its receiving something those both disappear.

This is what happens when I use the genesis by itself. With the Sega CD attached, its LEDs will occasionally light momentarily when powering on the genesis, but other than that the same thing happens as with the genesis alone.
