HAHAHA..rather good stuff http://www.orau.org/ptp/collection/quackcures/standradiumsolution.htm http://www.orau.org/ptp/collection/quackcures/gramaze.htm http://www.orau.org/ptp/collection/quackcures/radbath.htm http://www.orau.org/ptp/collection/quackcures/bread1.htm
Also for a while, everyone thought radiation fixed everything. Like the water jugs impregnated with radium, it was supposed to revitalize you. Maybe it did, at least until your teeth all fell out and other awesome parts of radium poisoning. Dang, Tatsujin just barely beat me to it
There used to be machines in the shoe stores here that showed live xray of your toes, so you could judge how well the shoes fit.... shit you not.
and they worked. they were shielded in lead. ...but the parts where your eyes and feet weren't covered in lead lol. I watched a "worlds failed inventions" special on history channel the other week. talked about radiation alot.
just check futher links on the page above: http://www.orau.org/ptp/collection/shoefittingfluor/shoe.htm Despite these relatively high exposures, there were no reported injuries to shoe store customers. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the operators of these machines. Many shoe salespersons put their hands into the x-ray beam to squeeze the shoe during the fitting. As a result, one saleswoman who had operated a shoe fitting fluoroscope 10 to 20 times each day over a ten year period developed dermatitis of the hands. One of the more serious injuries linked to the operation of these machines involved a shoe model who received such a serious radiation burn that her leg had to be amputated (Bavley 1950). I have seen one of those machines in a museum back when I was a kid. Sure it was "out of order";-)
If only Menguele and his team could come up with more of those inventions for us nowadays... The world would be awesome. And we would all call each other Mr and Mrs Tumor
Background radiation can actually be beneficial in low doses, in some circumstances - it stimulates the body's defences against radiation, whereas otherwise it would be dormant. There is an Iranian spa town (I forget the name) where people on average have less disease, higher life span etc perhaps because there is above average background radiation in the area. Apparently the scale for radiation poisoning devised after Hiroshima/Nagasaki was linear when in fact further studies have shown it is hooked shaped at the very bottom. Around Chernobyl nature thrives for example and since the accident I think it is only 8 people that died from radiation related illness (and they were involved in the direct clean up around the reactor). The Sun's claims of 15 foot tall chickens and 5 million deaths was obviously bullshit! Not saying these products are inherently safe to use, but for the most part they are fine to be around. Ah - this is what I'm talking about, I believe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiation_hormesis And the Iranian town: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramsar,_Mazandaran
I ve been to that place in Iran, pretty nifty. Chernobyl was around the time that I was born. some people were gifted with giant cocks, like myself, while others turned out to be genetically deficient, proving many unfortunate abnormalities. I knew one such kid back when I was in 5th grade, one of his hands was completely deformed
I stopped taking this seriously right there. And now I'm confused. :O What's true? What not? It's too late for me to think clear, in my 32°C attic of a bedroom with 80% humidity.
The medicinal quacks: when everything else fails..........scratch that, dont EVER listen to a quack, his "medicine" will kill you before your ailment does. These assholes are always chasing the latest trend, in late 19 century this guy Mesmer created a practice of religious proportions around magnetism, and boy was he popular! where do you think the word mesmerizing comes from? Dooping people is easy, they believe any shit as long as you dont ask them to actually understand it, thats why science is boring while healing crystals are cool and "spiritual". Back to radioactive stuff, the fact is that back then radiation itself was mysterious with scientist knowing just a few things for sure, so selling it as the next miracle was easy.
i dated a girl once. she was really into crystal bullshit...we both got sick. same time, probably from the same person. I did some normal shit. gatorade...chicken soup...some cold medicine. she meditated, spun some fucking crystal around, mumbled shit. guess who got better? lol
ha! Nice to see someone picking up on that=) Yes, the first one is just a stereotypical macho joke, the other bit is true though and it's indeed a very sad truth.
