For the record? I don't care who reported it first. What I do care about is whether or not this was announced as an actual exclusive. Was that stated unambiguously? I imagine that with DirectX being what it is, porting Frontier from Win32 to the 360 is relatively easy. But seeing the game on other consoles wouldn't be a bad thing, in my mind.

Actually, I always thought Monster Hunter was a breading game like say Digimon or something like Pokemon. If it really is more like a Phantasy Star Online game I'd be in to that  Still not worth all the hype though.

No doubt it'll boost 360 sales in Japan. which is probably why Microsoft did this.

just came off playing the latest on the Wii. fucking brilliant!!! That and No More Heroes 2 made me hug the wii on the 26th. Spectacular titles both of them!!

PS: NMH2 includes classic controller support..it should give you a taste of how the ps3/xbox versions will be. It handles well but it just doesnt feel as satisfying!

Well that was ownage. Really it's not worth arguing further what my point was. So I'm just going to leave it there. So you win.:crying:

Possibly but not as much as you think. This game still exist on the PC and the 360 version will be the same thing but on separate servers. The PC version does well but not anywhere close to Tri (wii) or Freedom (psp).

Heh, sorry if I came off a bit harsh. It's just that I know folks on the press side as well as on the dev side. And one of their biggest pet peeves is reading forums saying that they "stole" news from a press conference. One of them had been complaining about it last week in fact, so it was fresh on my mind. In the age os instant gratification and 'net connected smartphones there's little in the way of exclusives anymore. As soon as something is publically announced, the details are being posted by everyone in the damn room. ;)

I'll be honest, I've never understood the draw of any of the Monster Hunter games. It's just fetch quest after fetch quest with no real point.

If I want to play a fetch quest, I'll play Diablo II. :)

I didn't quite get it when I played the PS2 version or the first PSP game, but once MH Freedom Unite came out it clicked for me. Every boss creature has a set of strengths and weaknesses that aren't communicated clearly right up front. You're meant to go up against them and see how they react to various attacks, and you almost never figure it out the first time you meet. Obviously, sussing all that information out is easier in a party of four than it is by yourself.

The fetch quests are dumb in the first set of missions, but once you get past the tutorial levels they actually turn out to be hidden survival quests. Yes, you have to bring back twenty bundles of mountain herbs, but what they guy isn't telling you is that there's a new wyvern type with an electrical attack you've never seen before lurking around the top of the mountain. I never replay those, but I do enjoy grinding the giant monster encounters once I get to know the boss in them. It's incredibly satisfying for me to get that first kill, and even more thrilling when I'm able to capture them alive for the better loot drop.

I get that a lot of players might not enjoy being faked out like that, or get any joy out of the trial-and-error of action combat without an HP gauge and elemental indicators. Still, it's the closest thing to a current PSO we have until Sega reveals what they're doing for the tenth anniversary.

For me, I was more looking at it from a time perspective. I was up late that night when the news broke on the net from a famitsu mag leak which worked their way through forums then to kotaku then back onto forums again as "omg, kotaku found out X" when it was known before kotaku posted. I wasn't really refering to the full public press release because this came about around the time the event started and long before the embargo was lifted. I didn't hear any news that kotaku was live blogging and I also quickly checked the site before my post but I didn't search all the post to see if any really mention it. I just linked to their post which pretty much goes on the famitsu magazine leak.

So I am guilty of not getting all my info sorted out before posting. :-(

I personally come from the tech/dev side and I have a distaste for kotaku and their style of reporting news (or unwanted spin on PR). Not to mention their reposting of news from forums with out pointing to the source (sure we all guilty of this but we're also not out to run a prof website either).

That could be because the Japanese PC gaming scene is well.... errrrr pretty much porn / hentai based with a few cool Doujin titles.

So you mean the same as the 360 in japan then. eh?

I kid but 360 game sales are pretty pore. The only system the 360 is outselling in japan now is the PSP-Go. Even on multiplatform titles where it warrants to buy the 360 version over ps3 (bayonetta), the ps3 version still outsells it by a good margin.

That's because Sony buys store space in major stores. I know too well on the Bayonetta front. Only independent stores had the far superior 360 version running while major chain stores had only 1 or 2 copies of the 360 game while the shelves were full of the PS3 version plus they were only promoting the PS3 version since there were no 360 references at all to the game. I even complained to one store. That's when I was told that they are paid displays. makes me sick in a way that a poorer product gets all the lime light.
