I have been having a problem with my PSP lately, and wanted to know if anyone else has the same thing happening to them. I had just bought a new game (rockman dash 2 import) and popped the disc into the PSP. I played for a bit lying in bed, and later turned it off, went to sleep. When putting the game away the next morning, I noticed that the back of the UMD (the plastic covering, not the UMD itself) is covered in scratches. I found this odd, and maybe just a coincidence, but recently, the same thing has been happening to all my games and movies (but again, luckily, its only the UMD plastic cover, not the disc itself) Pissed off (especially since all 5 of my Family Guy S1 discs are messed up) I called Sony's Help Line, and this is what I was told. He said that when an user holds the PSP with the screen side facing down or diagonally down, it raises the CD Lens closer to the disc, which scratches the plastic protecting the disc. Now, I just bought WWE 2006, and made damn sure the system was face up. It now has a few hard to see scratches on it. What the hell is going on? Is my system broken? Is everything this Sony Rep said true or BS? Am I being nuts, since its mostly a cosmetic problem on the discs, rather than affecting them being played? What do you guys/gals think? Thanks
sadly its just due to the way the mechenism is in the psp, no way to solve it sadly, belive me its neer impossible to keep those cases in perfect condition, your lucky, some people tend to have the case break on them and have to scotch tape the edges so it stays together firmly.
Am I the only one who sees something wrong with Sony just telling you, "Blah blah blah, hold it at the wrong angle, and it's gonna get scratched?" Aren't they pretty much admitting they have a shitty product?
It isn't anything new... Sony's been making products that like to break, scratch, or fail to work since, well... forever.
Yup hince me waiting till last year to buy a PS2.But there not the only ones in gaming doing this im on my 3rd Xbox. While my Gamecube hasnt even coughed.
with all these design flaws that have recently come forward, im starting to rethink buying one....though a hammer can play UMD's very well
meh, that is not sony's fault is YOUR fault, is the way you insert the disc, if you do it straight down is ok, if you do it little bit poshing towards you "so it touches the metal stuff", then it gets all scratched, if you dont beleave me try it yourself.
thanks god, its only the psp. If it wasnt the only machine, then this format would be bigger in the market. :noooo:
well being old(?) one technology I wish further developed would be bubble memory... it sounded pretty wicked back then and still is...
Fujitsu used bubble memory on its first line of pasocom - FM-8... as far as I know it's the only pasocom that used this interesting idea... I once saw someone was selling apparently brand new bubble memory module for FM-8 on Yahoo Nippon I was quite tempted even though I don't have FM-8 - I wish I could afford one back then but it took many months of allowance to get FM-NEW7 and by that time FM-8 has been discontinued...
actually konami used the bubble system for some its early arcade games such as gradius, it was discountinued due to it taking time to warm up and some other technicality with it, its funny but there was a time when electronics didnt commonly have these issuse, as for the umds, its a bit tough since your inserthing them in a casing thats sadly made out of very cheap plastic, and smudge and scratches easily, as for dvds adn such, the only ones i have that are scratched are either used or some friend barrowed them adn didnt take carefull care of them, im so fortunate that none of my shenmue 2 discs have a single scratch, though sadly the bottom of the box has faded a little bit and one of the cases has a chip due to the way ncsx shipped, ah well.
