I don't know if this happens to anyone else, but I have had some dc games that develop cicular ring like scratches(sorta how a crow is on a vinyl). Anyway I am wonder if it is at all possible to buffer them out? Reason I ask is there is a local game store that does professional scratch repairs but the guy told me that with dc discs they can't buff out that type of scratch. I am guessing this due to the way gd are made but was wondering if there is a way to get them out?
GDs are just CDs which are read at a higher rate than normal... Meaning the data from the laser is sampled at an higher rate than would on a CD running on the same speed. This means the "pits" on the track are smaller and so requires the plastic of the disc be completely free of scratches. This higher density is the reason why GDs are less tolerant to scratches than normal CDs. The repair method for CD is polish, which in fact is just make even more (and smaller) scratches on the disc so more light can pass through the existing (bigger) scratches. Sadly as GDs require better focus than CDs polishing the surface isn't really a good solution or if it's possible it's more critical than polishing normal CDs.
Would resurfacing means filling the scratches with some transparent material ? that's better than polishing the surface, if so. And is there repair for scratches on the reflective side of the disc ?
