So the other day I installed a Ghost 2 v2 in my system. Put it right near the BIOS points so that most of the cables were short and only as long as required. After testing all continuity all was well and I reassembled the machine. Then, I burned the 2.22 RC4 firmware onto a disc and reset the machine 5 times to get it to flash the firmware that allows naughty things. Now, first of all I had a weird issue when I inserted my memory card from another system. I only managed to replicate this about 3 times but I figured deleting some stuff would make a difference. Therefore I deleted the both System Config files and the DMS3 settings file on the memory card. No issues since. Odd glitch I guess? Anyway, the main issue I'm facing here is that Tekken 3 doesn't detect properly. It's a backup of the Japanese version but it only recognises as 50Hz. When I boot it on my DMS3 Plus system it boots 60Hz fine. However, I've tried various other games (Metal Slug X backup, legit FFVIII, legit MGS and legit Parasite Eve) and they've all detected 60Hz just fine so either something has been done with this ISO or the game is made in a certain way that makes this chip unable to detect it or something. Was also wondering how the configuration of the chip works. Sksapps has a few images called Loader 1.0 and Manager 1.30 but there's no documentation with them. Any input would be appreciated. I'm loving how discreet this chip is and other than this issue with Tekken 3 I'm extremely happy with it. Another thought would be burning an NTSC-U copy or trying another NTSC-J image I suppose. Both the Ghost 2 v2 and DMS3 Plus machines are SCPH-39003 (V7).
So what happens when you try booting the original disc? Should be pretty easy to tell if the iso had been tampered with if you do that.
I believe you want to use the danin installer, either the HDD or no HDD version depending on your setup. This will let you get into the configuration, much like the crystal chips.
Hmm, I've got danin installer burned - not too sure how to access the chip configuration though. EDIT: So I burned Loader 1.0 and Manager 1.3 to a disc and it seems as if Loader 1.0 is more comprehensive overall. Shall see if the PSX screen fix option fixes the T3 error. EDIT2: Seems as if the disc is just accessing the manager built into the chip's firmware or whatever. Ghost2 manager 2.22 is showing. I have just disabled the PSX video vid and am going to try some other NTSC discs now to see if that variable has any affect over stuff as it appeared to be off before and NTSC stuff worked fine. Same problem with T3 with the option on though. EDIT3: Nope, enabling/disabling the PSX fix option doesn't appear to be doing anything. Final Fantasy VIII is booting at 50Hz, even during the intro credits and then it's 60Hz at the title screen. Metal Slug X is just 60Hz from the off too. Kinda strange, but at least I reduced the amount of time the controller check takes.. Maybe I can make it 0, oh I see what this is for. Not gonna use any of that stuff. 2 seconds is lowest. The boot mode doesn't appear to be changeable either, strange. EDIT: Just loaded a "1998" Collector's CD of Squaresoft preview stuff and the menu is 50Hz and when I select to view a preview it is 60Hz. Maybe it's trying to do it intelligently. Very strange, will have to play around in some Tekken 3 menus or something. Again though, having PSX video fix enabled has no affect on this.
http://web.archive.org/web/20070418020102/http://www.ghost2.net/home.php?sid=21&a=ok hold triangle and press reset to get into the settings. Dont know if this is different than what you have found.
The manager needs to be installed to the MC to do that, and even when I tried that it didn't work - oddly. The settings are stores in the EEPROM anyway, so I just had to tap reset 4 times from standby state to allow EEPROM writing. Just gonna try a few more games and see if any jump to 50Hz at Tekken 3 does.
Yes, I know that - you said you had burned the disc and didnt know how to get into the config menu. Wayback machine has the ghost2 site pretty well backed up, including the forums. Might find something there
Sorry, I was referring to the danon installer disc then - had no joy with that so I burned the other two discs. Either way, Smackdown 2 worked fine, Vib Ribbon worked fine and Chocobo Racing threw up a copy protection error that my DMS3 Plus system doesn't. They obviously use different methods of booting but I guess this shows a limitation of the Ghost 2 v2. Kinda interesting at least. Edit: Perhaps I should try playing with older firmware versions. Either way, I'll scour the forums for all the knowledge I can. Thanks for the heads up. Edit2: Meh, functions the same with 1.31 firmware.
