Wasnt sure where to post this and if anyone here would be interested but... I have a load of old Computer and Video Game magazines i have to get rid of. Its basically my life long collection thats become too much to keep. My original intention a few years back was to scan all of them and "Preserve" for collections online. I've since moved country and now have a baby boy that takes up all my time. I know i'm never going to be able to preserve them myself, and I my mum needs the space they keep at her house. I'd really hate to throw them away so am offering them to person/s who'd be interested in taking them and preserving for everyone. Im currently living for the next few months in Lancaster in UK (Fairly close to Manchester). As my Danish girlfriend is working at the uni here for a short period. I took the opportunity to try and sort out all my stuff currently filling my mums loft in Hull. I'm willing to drive them so far from here but would prefer someone to pick them up if poss. Posting would be ridiculously expensive so its out the question. Of course this only applies to people in the UK. An example of what I have are as follows:- Ultimate Future Games (All issues 1-18 including free promotional issue 0) Total Control issues 1-11 Variety of Games Master Variety of CVG Sega Pro 2,3,4,5,6,7 some early PC Format Raze 3,5,6,8,10,11 Many many Amiga Magazines, most with cover CD and most from the later years before closing (Amiga Format and CU amiga mainly) Amiga Survivor (fan mag) 1,2,3,4,5,6. And many more If anyone here is interested or knows of anyone that is, let me know Im really only donating these in a hope someone will scan them but even just giving them away is ok, I just dont want to have to throw them away. Cheers!
is giving away as in FREE? I have some people in Lancaster who should owe me a favour or two. EDIT: regarding preservation however, as I am a lazy bum and have so much work to do, I consider lwizardl a more appropriate person for the project.
Yeah, Im giving them all away FREE on the condition that whoever takes them will scan them for preservation and pass me the digital copies (as well as make them freely available online). If that is done then I dont mind them being sold on by that person (to make up for the time scanning). I think some of them I could ebay and get a bit of money for but I'd rather still be able to "keep" them digitally If you know what I mean? I can't possibly ship ALL of them as they would cost a small fortune, its probably going to be mad enough getting them driven somewhere. But if it gets to a point where nobody is willing to take them all from this country then I will offer them in small chunks as long as postage is paid first to other countries away from UK. I really want to make it simple and not have to start dealing with loads of different people. But I understand it may come to that. lwizardl: - Its a shame you are in USA if you really are keen. I have put out this message to various sources so I will see how things go. If it comes to it and you REALLY are willing to take these AND do the labourous task of preserving them, and I get no luck in UK then maybe we can figure something out. At the moment I have about half of the full load here in Lancaster. I will be going back to Hull this weekend and am shifting the second lot along with a load of my old console collection over too. I'll list all the magazines once they are all here in detail so people can see exactly what I have.
if you could check shipping costs to battle creek, mi 49015 USA maybe I could cover some if not all depending on cost. I'll check with it on xe.com for us amount
Finally Listed Yeah, I've figured that shipping outside UK is going to be a tremendous amount. I don't know the exact weight of them all but it must be close to 40KG. I went to the post office here to check package costs for just 10KG to USA and thats £63 ($120 US). I think it gets "Cheaper" as the weight goes higher (Exponential scale rather than Linear) but still, its madness. Anyway, I've spent the last few weeks going through them all and listing what I have in detail just incase anyone in the UK would be interested.
