This will possibly mean absolutely nothing to anyone else, but this is fantastic for Scotland. Well done Glasgow in their outstanding bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth games!

The site is currently down, possibly because they are immediately updating it or due to volume of traffic, but when it works have a look: http://www.glasgow2014.com/

Well done Glasgow, should be very good for the city, it looks like some parts of teh East end are going to be rejuvenated. Better get a spare room ready to rent to an athlete Parris.

The East End is being flattened! They began a year or so ago clearing the land they intended to use and demolishing unsightly, dangerous or hi-rise buildings. They have subsequently opened up a huge corridor for the new motorway connection (which was originally delayed WAY back - there is literally a motorway viaduct that ends suspended in mid-air).

Remember the Sony Bravia ad with the paintball explosions where the entire hi-rise and playground is covered in paint? Did you think it was computer generated? Nope! That was brought down and the ground cleared.

The also took 10years to re-establish Glasgow Green, which was Britain's first public park and built a massive football training school, where there are 4 full sized football pitches and a series of 5-a-side pitches. It is literally across the road from the Athletes Village. I'm a stones throw from all this and can't wait.

The whole of the area East of me has changed completely and by 2014 I suspect will be utterly stunning as they intend to landscape an entire district!

Could be good news for the Glasgow housing market even if the rest of the UK begins to stagnate :icon_bigg

Well, that certainly had crossed my mind, but they also intend to build possibly the best sporting arenas outside London. The games will be fantastic, but what it will mean to the local area is incredible.

I'm going to ignore that last comment deliberately ;-)

I got an email from the official website (as I voted my interest in getting the games to Glasgow), so if you are wondering what Scotland looks like you can now view the video they used as part of the project: http://www.glasgow2014.com/Media-Centre/DVDs/DVDn.htm?id=Scotland2014

If you then click on the ''Athlete's Village'' then I live no more than a hop, skip & a jump from the complex. I'm in the city centre.

Quite possibly, but I am really interested in architecture and redevelopment - ''how exciting'' I hear you cry - so I've been keeping an eye on the work carried out so far. It'll be good to see run down and under utilised parts of Glasgow brought back to life.

I've been to Manchester only AFTER major redevelopment (an ex of mine lives in Mancs) so I can only say the city impressed me, but have no idea what it looked like beforehand.

They've completely transformed the docklands of Glasgow and continue to do so. For a city born on the industries surrouding the river Clyde it really did look like the city elders turned their backs on the river in the 70's and it's taken until now for them to realise just how important this area is. 10 years ago (when I first moved here) the city centre was being developed and the riverside was just beginning to be considered an asset again. By 2014 I think Glasgow will look fantastic, yet I hope they don't think it only has to look good for 2 weeks lol.
