GNUstep made of kryptonite!

  1. So yesterday I was reading Slashdot (yes, despite my complaining about Linux and OSS, I'm an avid /. reader) and saw a little article about an old video unearthed from 1992 about Steve Jobs demoing NeXTSTEP 3.0. There was also a link to the current GNUStep project, an open-source implementation of the classic OS. Now, as I'm a sucker for little-known alternative operating systems (despite the fact that nearly all of them hate my network card. :smt022 ), I began browsing the site, and soon found a link to a downloadable live cd. I immediately downloaded it, burned it to CD, and restarted my computer. The CD booted just fine, going through all the startup routines, and then the screen blanked as it was starting up its window manger... and nothing. There was a little bit of CD access later on, and then all was quiet as the computer effectively hung. I used testcd to verify the CD was alright, tried in fail-safe mode, nothing. Has anyone booted the OS and could give me some clues?

I have no idea, but if you look good you can find cheap official NeXT machines on US ebay, I was gonna get one but as usual no shipping abroad :-(

BTW, if you want another network card, let me know as I have like 30 spare ones. I got a whole lot for free about 4 years ago and havent run out yet :smt033
