Hello - I'm new (did my intro post already). Every year after Christmas my wife and I go to Japan to visit her dad for a week. Is there anything that I should look out for that may be considered relatively rare (game-wise) out here but somewhat easy to obtain there? I've only been there twice and a week definitely isn't enough time for me to stop and explore. We usually go to Akihabara for a day though.
Does anyone else see the irony of this post? First of all he was just asking a question jack-off, and even if you didnt think that he should have posted, there are more constructive ways of dealing with it than making a half-witted post like you have. Regarding the question above, from what I have learned you can get pretty much anything game related in Akihibara *for a price*. For the "right price" however, some exploring will be required. Have fun !
Retrocore has a Akihabra special that should point you in the right direction.Lord know it made me drool.
Hey Eiolon - apologies for the cool response. Anyhoo this should probably be in the Japan section as well. As for your question, depends what you want - I'm sure we can get you in the right direction. As for the things that just simply cannot be obtained outside japan are doujin stuff, pc games and general hardcore maniac stuff - like game jewelry, clothes, goods, etc. (ok they can be obtained - but not easily) If you are looking for stuff that hardly sees ebay, try the old nakano broadway. There are game card shops, action figure shops and even a retro doujin game place! As for the retro side of things - the only stuff that you don't see outside Japan are stuff that needs a good level of Japanese knowledge. Like rare novel games or rpgs. BTW - lucky you, wish I was going to Japan this winter...
Anyway, Eiolon, consider yourself to be in the land of opportunity. Rare items don't become suddenly less rare once you're in Japan. The streets aren't paved with Radiant Silverguns and Sapphire (the game, not the jewel...not to say that they've got actual sapphires in the street)...but consider this a time to buy whatever you want without having to pay a western markup, and expensive shipping. So, if I might not pick up any ludicriously rare and expensive games (they're still rare in Japan too, ya know...they're not gonna be mega cheap), but I'd try to pick up bulky things that are made expensive by shipping. I'd be buying every Japanese console I could fit into my luggage...espcially the ones you don't see in the west very often. But then again, I'm an absolute hardware nut...so...yeah... Edit: Just had a thought, Eiolon. A recommended thing to do is to bring a whole lot of clothes with you that you wouldn't mind throwing away. Thrift store T Shirts can be replaced with awesome video games on the way back.
Well 5-6 lines max i would say... do you really need all those links in the sig? Why not just make the banner a hotlink?
