I've googled and I've seen varying information about how to mod it. Some version have the chip left intact and wire added to it. Some version have RGB pins and analog ground pins lifted to separate it from existing parts on board to make LCD mod work. Which is better? If it's pin lifting, what are the recommended way to lift it?

Also I'd like to replace the TV tuner port with something else as 8 pin mini DIN seems non-standard. I wanted to replace it with something that can give me regular composite and audio out. Is there a mini DIN that would fit perfectly or would I need to hack it? Or is there a source of male 8 pin DIN that can be used?

I don't have a clue about lifting the pins but the 8 pin Mini-DIN is a quite common connector. There are a lot of listings for them on eBay. The XRGB Mini Framemeister also uses an 8 pin Mini-DIN for RGB input. Tim Worthington, the maker of the NESRGB and the GGTV boards, has some male connectors for sale on his website.

The connector looks more like a full sized 8 pin DIN connector but it isn't the right size or shape and the pins aren't in the correct positions to be a standard 8 pin DIN connector.

Physically it's about the same size as a mini DIN but I have not been able to find correct pin arraignment anywhere. So it is probably custom for NEC use only. Guess I'll have to replace it outright with something that's more common to get video-out port.

If you decide to replace it, I recommend using a standard 8 pin Mini-DIN.
