    Has anyone ever tried this?
I have some old carts where the contacts are in pretty worn and corroded. A good clean is no longer sufficient to get them back to 100%

There are some kits on ebay to do this, but is this recommendable to renew cart contacts? Could the electro-plating reaction damage the rom chips or other components?

AFAIK gold fingers are plated before you load it up with chips. I can't imagine electroplating the entire thing is good for the chips. Remove EVERYTHING and then electroplate and you might get somewhere without damage.

there are those kits that seem to be done for repairs like this, but they are pretty damn costly. Still cannot say how good/bad it is for the chips but the picture shows someone working on populated PCB.

Maybe tin them with "Liquid Tin"? I think that's going to be more economical than trying to work with gold, and there's no electricity involved, so perhaps safer.

Just do it in a well ventilated room. ;)

Any ideas where to get liquid tin RetroSwim? I've hunting for something to repair conductive pads on some old remotes and that sounds like it could do the job!

I actually applied solder to a gold contacts by semi-accident once. I cleaned it with wick but obviously the contact ended up "40/60 tin-lead plated"
I wonder if this would be a good idea to do this on purpose.

I do that on home etched PCB's to protect the exposed copper

Im a afraid that for cart contacts however, this would result in thicker plating/ more resistance to insertion, and possibly more maintenance problems in the long term.
