I don't know exactly for certain but, well, sort of. but it was always very much simplified for the home versions. because of less ROM-storage capacity.

in this case of Golden Axe, a 4-megabit home cartridge vs a 24 or 32 megabit arcade ROM-board. plus the weaker graphics processor (VDP) in the MD-Genesis compared to what's in the System16 motherboard.
