In the bunker mission (when you're thrown in a prison cell next to natalya), you can actually do most of the mission without having soldiers pouring in from everywhere. See, the mission is scripted so that they only show up if the (already present soldiers) shoot at you, and only then do the reinforcements show up. This means that even if the non-reinforcement soldiers sees you, the others won't show up until he fires, meaning that if you kill that soldier before he can pop a shot at you, nobody else will be alerted. But this also has the good-bad side effect that you can use pretty much any unsilenced guns without fear of having the entire soviet army falling down on your head because even the regular soldiers in general will not react to unsilenced shots! it's been a good 4 years since I last did that so I might not remember the details all that well, but that's practically how it goes. you should try it by yourself.
Hahaha, sounds like an interesting trick. There are a ton of interesting/strange oversights in that game, though. I used to spend hours on sites like Detstar that archived all the things left behind by Rareware. If they still have entirely unused portions of stages still in plain sight (the island in the dam, for example), I guess it's not difficult to imagine that there could be a few remaining bugs that never got ironed out. Of course, my favorite bug in Goldeneye would have to be dual-wielding guns. A newer convention in FPS? I don't think so! Hahaha.
why would dual-wielding be a bug when you can dual-wield guns normally in some levels? in the bunker mission case, I think it's more of a programer mistake than a bug or a glitch since there is nothing outstanding or overly strange about the fact the enemy will only be alerted by their own shots.
Oops, sorry. I meant that there is a way to hold separate guns in each hand. I know you can hold two of the same gun in some levels, but there is a switching trick that can let you hold two different guns and fire with both of them, which is something you're not supposed to be able to do.
It IS an oversight, because you can go blazing around with a kf7 soviet and let every single regular soldier in the level spot you, and if you kill them before they can shoot, the reinforcements won't come. I bet with the weapon cheats you could even blow up stuff around with bazookas and the reinforcements wouldn't come until one of the regular soldiers popped a shot at you.
oh yes, that I would call a good bad bug. c: but then, aren't you able to pick up xenya's grenade launcher/rcp90 dual-wield combo when you off her in the jungle? (been a while of course, might not remember it right)
