    hey guys!

i'm searching for a good and cheap place to stay during tokyo game show, for the nights of sept 24 to sept 28, 4 nights. anything recommendable? i read about several hostels and capsule hotels, but either were the curtains of the capsules too dusty, showering facilities an understatement, etc :) so is there a place that u can really recommend? or do u know people who rent a room for TGS visitors (as in bed+breakfast)? any help is greatly appreciated, thanks :)

Nowhere is cheap in Japan at the moment. Your currency is likely toilet paper right now, which is going to make it a pricey trip. Nonetheless, I would just search for a hotel in Chiba (that's where the event is). Should be cheaper than Tokyo year round.

If anyone's going to TGS and see some Gran Turismo freebies / promo, try getting something for me.

Is silver week going to be a yearly thing now? It's not just that Mars, Uranus, and The new PM's sphincter are in alignment?

On my calendar, it's only this year. As usually, the Japanese are idiots when designing decent holiday schedules. This year it's Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off. Next year, Monday and... Thursday. Yeah, WTF.

As for cheap accommodation, you could also try couchsurfing.org.

Go look at a calendar 10 years ago. It was worse. Some holidays were deemed "okay" to fudge their cultural value a bit (Umi no Hi in July for example) but things like the Fall Equinox and whatever the fuck the other one is (labor day?) are not

I got locked out once (left my keys indoors...), and my GF was away so I spent 3 nights sleeping in a internet cafe (was Y1000 a night literally... free drinks too... filled up a couple of bottles (with drink, they had toilets)... the chairs are comfortable and were easy to sleep in, you aren't meant to but unless you snore, no one goes to check....) bought new clothes and had showers at a swimming baths. Cost me less then Y8000 for those three nights including food and uniqlo clothes. Did a lot of walking between Shibuya, Shinjuku, Tokyo Dome, Akihabara, Kanda, Ueno...

New Koyo Hotel might be worth a try. It's in northeast Tokyo, in Taito-ku, only 2500 yen per night and you get your own room:

    http://newkoyo.com/

I recommend it, but you usually need a reservation a month in advance. Take a look.

How did you manage lock the door w/o the keys? I guess you had one of those useful places that locks the door behind you.

I had to leave work and go home one day to let my wife in. Twice, actually. This was in Hawaii though, not Japan.

lol. i had the opposite of that once, to let my wife out, because i forgot to take out the key out of the cylinder after locking (those hurry mornings ya now). may be that could happen only with swiss double cylinders.

Well I left at the same time as my GF so she locked the door, it wasn't until I tried to come home that I realised that my keys were in my other jeans... decided not to worry the GF so only called her when she was back from her work trip.
