I got my Neo Geo Pocket Color today  and wondered what were good games to get for it, I have Neo Turf Masters and will get Sonic soon with a few others but i'm not sure what others to get
I'm gonna tell you right now that SNK vs Capcom (The Fighter...is it called "Match of the Millenium?" is the do all, end all fighter on NGPC. Theres lots of other great ones...but SvC is by far the best. Buy. Enjoy.
So many good titles on the little Neo. Apart from the titles already mentioned (which are all great), Faselei is a superb strategy game, Neo Turfmasters (Big Tournament Golf) is the greatest portable golf game ever (trust me, you'll like even if you despise golf) and Puyo Pop is a stunning conversion of Puyo Puyo Tsu.
great thanx, i've got Neo Turfmasters (Big Tournament Golf) and really like it i will get Match of the Millenium and SNK vs Capcom, Cardfighters Clash. I wish i'd though about a NGPC sooner because i really like it.
I've always loved the Neo Pocket and I always will, but there's no denying that compared to the GBA, it doesn't really offer a whole ton of choices. Metal Slug 1st and 2nd Mission are okay, but don't compare to Metal Slug Advance, Ninja Five-O or other platform shooters on the GBA. Sonic Pocket is the only platformer on the system and while it's a good Sonic game, Sonic is Sonic and that ain't that great compared to all the platformers on the GBA. Same goes for puzzle games (my top recommendation on the Neo Pocket would actually be Puzzle Link which no one has mentioned yet, though). Shooters? There's Cotton, which is okay, but not anything special and it's the only offering. Racers? Not at all. That said, there is one area where the Neo Pocket really shines. Fighters. I'd actually say that Last Blade is a better fighting game than Match of the Millenium. Match of the Millenium always gets people's attention and recommendations just because of what it is and also because it packs so much entertaiment value in, but I think Last Blade is a tighter fighting engine and so the individual fights are overall more enjoyable. Get both, they're two of the best fighting games ever released--not just the two of the best *HANDHELD* fighting games, either, two of the best fighting games, period. Gals Fighters is right up there, too, and King Of Fighters: R-1 and R-2 aren't far behind either. Just get them all; they're the primary reasons why a body'd own a Neo Pocket in the first place. Actually, there's one other big reason. Ganebare Neo Poke-kun. I was glad to see Funk Buddy include that among his recommendations since it doesn't get enough attention. It's a very unusual game and one that has to approached with the right attitude to be enjoyable, but once you understand how to enjoy it, the joy is enormous. One of the best games ever, in my opinion. I was also kind of happy to see that Funk Buddy recommended Cool Boarders Pocket. A lot of people don't like that game at all, but it was always one of my favorites on the system. Closest thing there is to a racer and it definitely has the edge of your seat feel that a good racer should have. One other game I like a lot on the Neo Pocket that no one has yet mentioned is Dark Arms. When I first played, I was a bit unsure how to classify it, but since then I have played a couple of the recent Castlevania games and now I realize that Dark Arms is basically a modern Castlevania with a top-down perspective and some very unusual weapons. It's a lot of fun and has great replay value. ...word is bondage...
Well, it's no surprise that the Gameboy has a lot more to choose from. However, I'd still rate some of the NeoGeo Pocket games (other than the fighters) as superior. The Metal Slug Mission series is in my mind better than the lackluster Advance. Sonic Pocket Adventure is tuned-up Sonic 2 (some could say "cut-down", however, in my mind only the fluff was cut), and also my favorite Sonic title ever. I would also have to disagree on the puzzle game genre. Honestly, nothing beats Puyo Pop, Magical Drop Pocket, Puzzle Link! 2, Delta Warp, Picture Puzzle, Puzzle Bobble Mini and Shanghai Mini. The only essential title that's not there is Tetris.
