I'm looking for a good quality USB controller for my new PC.

I thought about the Saturn one, but only managed to find crappy quality clones made my G-Tron. Any idea where i could find decent ones?

Also thought about the NeoGeoCD, i remember it being released for PS2 and PS3. Does the PS3 work on PC? Easy to find?

Some friends said i should just get a Xbox360 controller.

    Any ideas / suggestion?

Depends what you want to play. 2D games or 3D games.

For 3D games you should go with a 360 controller as they work pretty well. You can also use a PS3 controller with some extra software but I still think 360 one works out better and is easier to deal with.

For 2D, yeah I would go with a USB saturn if you can find one, if not go with a PS3 arcade stick as most (if not all) PS3 arcade sticks work on PC perfectly (I use to use a sega VirtuaStick for a while).

If you can soldier I would use a retro zone kit plus a sega saturn controller.

The PS3 controller does not work without two drivers and even then it may still not work, the Xbox 360 wired controlelr is just plug in and play. Another pad I really love is the ASCII Shiimaiku controller (ASC-1606SM) which has a decent d pad, a single analogue stick but 6 buttons and two shouder buttons. You can switch what the analogue and dpad do which is nice (has a plug in microphone too). I buy as many as I can as they are great and quite cheap plus work on the PS2 and PC (was a bundled controller with Seaman on the Playstation 2)

It really depends on what your going to be playing.

For anything 2D Ive got a old Creative labs Cobra 2 gamepad , I got it back in the early 2000's simply because it has a very similar layout to the Mega Drive or Saturn, its responsive and fits my hands well, I don't know if you can still find them ebay maybe....

For everything els I really like my Xbox 360 controller, it might have a terrible dpad but it plays wonderfully.

PS Any generic USB PS3 controller will work on PC, just bare in mind things like vibration and force feedback wont function at all.

I want just for 2D stuff really. KegaFusion, Zsnes, MAME...

I really wanted a Sega Saturn and a NeoGeoCD controllers, but it seems it'll be difficult to be able to find those.

As I said in another thread, I love using the Saturn pads for 2d fighters, and pretty much 2d games in general. I cannot find the site right now, but there is one that sells genuine ones for about $55-$60. Not really worth it, in my opinion.

As for 3d games, I think that depends on what you prefer. Do you like using a 360 controller, or a ps3 controller? Do you already have one of these? If you already have a ps3 controller, all you need to do is download certain drivers and connect it to your pc via usb. It works well for me, but I prefer the 360 controller.

If you like the build of a 360 controller but are worried about the awful d-pad, you could get one of the newer controllers with an improved d-pad. I own one and find it to be a massive improvement over the original. It's nowhere near as good as a Saturn d-pad, but it's on par with the ps3 one.

EDIT: For what it's worth, I found the site that sells the Saturn USB controllers:

Microsoft Xbox 360 controller for Windows - Wired. At £17.99 in the new slim style black and readily available you won't regret it, plus you could use it for 3d too (and many games show its buttons as if you were on a 360 in ultra high quality pimp mode).

The wireless controller is a rip off as by the time you get a play and charge kit and the dongle to connect it to the PC, on top of the cost of a wireless controller you're down £45.

I intend to drop £20 on the chatpad next pay day and try out the custom drivers for it too and I'll let you know how I get on with that :p
