For every 1 video of actual worth saving there are 500 videos of some stupid kid screaming about something unintelligibly. Of course future digital archeologists will be crying at this loss that could be so easily preserved. There apparently is a group of people on an IRC channel out there trying to preserve everything on Google Video. Beyond asking people to help that have "Linux boxes" I'm not sure how they're planning on mirroring what must be a petabyte or two of data.
Kind of sad to see it go even though it was inevitable. There are some pretty rare old documentaries that I'll have to start saving.
It's a shame they aren't automatically importing all the Google Video's into YouTube - as has been pointed out, there will be some very sad losses when the service ceases
Somebody needs to download all of 'Welcome to Teh Scene' before it goes down. if anybody knows a firefox plugin that doesnt fucking link to one of those sites that works like 1/8 of the time let me know as I'd really like to save it.
man, that's really sad. only on google video you could watch this kind of stuff: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3050274602965881565#
I used the first suggestion but I HATE jdownloader. It didn't work and came with some facemoods malware bullshit.
Ya, the Archive Team are actively working with volunteers to download as many videos as they can before April 29th. There may be about 2.8 million videos hosted on Google's video service, and of that, only about 324k have been downloaded.
That's what struck me as odd... My only guess was they are slightly different formated videos but further looking proves this isn't true. Maybe they are just too lazy to merge it with Ytube. Either way, good riddance. Can't believe it took them this long to get rid of G-videos. Thought they would have merged both when they acquired Youtube!
Facemoods is gone from the installer now which makes it more attractive but I have a plugin now that is perfect!
