Got a Old Neo 2 Chip in my PS2 and I've lost the gameshark disc that I need to do the swap, but I was wondering if the thing would play real import ps2 games even without the swap method. I was thinking of importing the Ps2 nights
Well, it was the first modchip i had (it came installed) As i remember, it only played CD-Rs with the swap trick with the gameshark disk. It won't play DVD-Rs or other regions game dvds. If you want a good modchip, try finding a original Matrix Infinity or a DMS 4. There are other ways, like Free MC Boot, Memor32 with Memento software,... but i'm not familiar with these options.
You probably need a newer modchip to play original import discs. However playing burned discs is not so hard. As Johnny said, you can use the Free MC Boot to load burned games on any console. With the right program you should be able to load an original import via Swap Trick. Basically you need some way of getting some special files onto your PS2 memory card to take control of the machine at bootup to be able to load any program you want. Then you could load SwapMagic and do a Swap Trick to load an original import, or you could use ESR to load a patched burned game disc.
I have a PSTWo with DMS4 SE Lite up for grabs .... http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20185
Same here but mine has a DMS3 chip thats still for grabs. http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20111
Definitely not interested in buying a whole new ps2... I'm gonna look more into that Free MC Boot thing
Well just remember the Free MC Boot will not boot oringal import games. You have to back it up then burn to disc to play.
Well, you can use it to boot HDLoader (If you have a fat PS2 + HD) and then install the import game. Still, the Memor32 + Memento will play originals right?
If your modchip allows you to "swap trick" a disc, you could boot the original import by having Free MC Boot to run a ELF file of SwapMagic. You'd just have to put in an original PS2 DVD game, then swap to Nights. Otherwise you can just use your PC to rip, patch, and burn Nights to boot with ESR for FreeMCBoot.
Can anyone make me a CD version image of Free boot I'm having trouble figuring out how I can make a boot disc.
How would you boot the CD? If you can boot a CD, you just need to burn a PS2 format CD with the executable being something like a File Browser/Menu. I believe uLaunch is the one most people use. With that, you can run the FreeMCBoot installer to install onto a memory card and configure it. If you have trouble, maybe a member could install it on a memory card for you.
Couldn't I boot the cd because I have a neo 2 modchip in my console? Meaning I cn run psx game backups. Anyone able to make a burnable cd for me?
