I found a nice Wii system loose at Goodwill for only $10. It's the black model with Gamecube support. It powers up and seems to work but it won't take any disc. It just won't load so i think the eject system is stuck or dead. I already have a working Wii (late non GC-compatible) so I thought I'd try a mod. I remember reading about SD card mod that lets one load games off SD card and bypass the drive.

I'd reccomend modding your Wii with ModMii. It takes you step by step for modding your Wii. The cIOS installed will let you run your games off a USB harddrive.

Just tried it, it didn't work. It won't read SD card at all, including the one that I have in my other Wii. When I tried soft modding my other Wii, it worked fine. I think the SD card slot in the $10 Wii is dead. So no disc, no SD card, no soft mod, it's a paper weight :(

Any guide on checking the SD card slot? The pins don't look bent, both Wii looks the same to me. Maybe a loose cable inside?

If it has old firmware it won't read SDHC cards. Is your SD card exactly SD?

Info for the OP, All sd cards greater than 2gb are sdhc. 2 gigs and less are just normal sd.

The SD card I used is 2GB. Worked fine in one Wii but not in the one I wanted to mod. All I can do with the busted Wii is go online and play DLC. (it was wiped clean so no free game :p)
