This weekend I picked up a pair of v1.6 consoles that I won on eBay for £10, only bid too. One works perfectly and is a bit scratched and the other one looks brand new, came with a box and all manuals and leads, and has a failed HDD. I believe it to actually be an Australian console as there was an Aussie mains lead in the box and the contact details on the box are for Xbox Australia. I also have another 2 I won for £5, again only bidder. One has a supposed AV output failure, and the other has a drive (not sure which one) error. I'm hoping at least one is a v1.2-1.5, preferably the one with an AV fault so I can replace a flash I screwed up. Also going to use the RAM for a 128 upgrade if it isn't repairable.
Well, they all work. No AV output failure, just something weird happening with the stock dash, the background web of triangles thing stayed still, whilst the dash in the foreground was weaving it's way around the screen. Both of the second 2 had failed DVD drives, although I managed to get one working by boiling the belt. The other had a broken gear support. I repaired that and liberally applied lithium grease to everything as the geartrain was binding up after my repair. It closes the tray eventually, but fails to read anything. They both (the second pair) got flashed with Cromwell and I will be using them as a pair to host files for Open Xbox Live research and a bit of dodgy copyright code hosting too. If xbins and TIZ are still hosting games, hacked code and god knows what else, I'm not too worried.
Not sure what you expect an xbox to sell for, but I cant even give them away at times. I have a bunch in my garage and would be over the moon to get any money for and they all work fine.
Whenever I've looked, they go for stupid amounts, well, stupid amounts for what they are. On eBay UK there have been some selling for hundreds. These were the only 2 listings i've seen recently that didn't sell for insane amounts. I bet there's more than one person buying them thinking they're getting an Xbox One for £150. I was really hoping to get some dead ones for spare TSOP's and RAM, may have to risk it and get a bunch from China and hope for the best.
Well, if you ever want anymore - hit me up first. I threw away a box full of xbox motherboards as they are practically worthless.
I never would have dreamed the original XBOX's motherboard would devalue to the extent of its stock HDD.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Consoles-...lete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684 Like I said, pretty much worthless. £5.99 + shipping (which is a fair amount, they weigh a lot) with ebay and paypal fees? Like £3 or something, not even worth the time to list it.
If they're early version systems, people want them to get a trusty mod done. I'd throw them up on the forums, or free stuff thread. Just seems to be unpopular in the UK. Xboxes somewhat sell here in Australia, but need to be bundled with stuff otherwise they don't. You're right on the shipping and fees part though, it's not worth the energy.
At least you could've desoldered and sold the ram. Only chinese ebayers have those models anymore and they charge too much.
The ram is easy to get... You can get it on some old graphics cards for <$10 on ebay, or just get the chips direct from china....
