The same way you get anything working with Windows 98:

Make a boot floppy disk and reboot windows with the disk

Type "Format C:" (without the quote marks)

Next install a real operating system

Then plug it in, load the drivers and voila! it works

Windows 98 is shit when it comes to USB devices.

:smt043 :smt043 :smt043 Very true although it did improve a lot with win98SE, still nothing beats windows xp when it comes to usb support.

That's not totally true...I have found Knoppix linux to have better support then XP :-D

I've got no problems with Win 98... though my GP32 is hooked up to my XP machine. Anyhow, what I do most on my GP32:
    - playing NES games using LJGP32
    - listening to MP3s with the official player beta 2 version (not the built-in one, shame the mp3s have to be 44khz)
    - playing Doom II (sometimes with the Halflife WAD)
    - playing Wolfenstein 3D shareware

You might also want to reflash your GP32 with Spiv's MultiFW, GPBIOS (www.gpbios.tk), YAFL, or one of Aquafish's launchers. Oh and I think you'll be spending some time around www.gp32x.com :)
Bet there's way more good stuff out there, but abovementioned XP machine has a dodgy power supply so right now I'm sticking to what I have on my SMCs.

and about flashing the bios. is there alot of risk? or to be more percise do the risks outway the benifits.

    ............

do NOT flash the bios. if you have doubts.....its a failry simple pocedure but if you scre it up you can make a right mess of things (no shit I hear you say!!) I got a new gp32, the 180Mhz blu (back lit) clockable model, its nice, but for some reason a little unstable more then the last one (the one antipasta has) with some emulators I have...........it runs the snes emulator great (when you drop the sound rate) and I have to say playing assualt suit valken on the way to work is a magical feeling (love that game).......my only gripe is with the megadrive emulator, the guy whos been working on his (cant recall the name now) has done some amazing work, he's got it running smooth (he released a beta 2 a few months back, havent checked for awhile) but with no sound...and I cant wait to play sonic 2 on the go...........but at the moment I'm using mine to playback anime, notably the full metal panic series working my way through that.........

But a gp32 with windows 98 is hit and miss, I had some problems with my last gp32 with windows 98, it just couldnt connect via the usb cable, but I got another copy of the program managment file and it worked fine after that, conact antipasta, it should be on his cd's I sent him with the gp32 (version 1.6!?!? from memory either way the highest version that was on the cd).....as for windows xp, no problem with it.........

but there great little machines and well worth the time to dable with...

Hi, nice to see you back Teka :)
I'm still very happy with the GP :drinkers:
Oh and I figured out the problem with the FLU, both the wires that lead to the switch have broken off... they're too tiny for me to resolder, but it's no big deal.

Anyhow, I don't think reflashing your GP32 is a problem but do mind the following:

-absolutelyy *do* put NEW batteries in your GP32, lest the flashing process
    malfunctions
    - make sure the firmware file and the flashing program are in the right
directories on your SMC (respectively the root dir and \GPMM)
    - keep the old firmware on the SMC, in case your new firmware doesnt
include PC-Link options you can reflash the old one easily
    - only download firmware from good-looking sites, who knows what some
    asshole is up to
    - start with GPBIOS (www.gpbios.tk), as it allows you to run other
firmwares from the SMC so you can try them all in one flash :)

ok www.gpbios.tk..... ill start looking through it. so if i flash the bios wrong, the gp is still recoverable?
antipasta, any way i can get that "managment file" tekaotaku's talking about? i cant find anything like that anywhere.

man, this gp is gonna be so sweet.

It should have really said "managment program", Ive just read through my last post and noticed the spelling mistakes, which is what drinking copius amounts of larger does to you before posting on a forum........

But the program is nothing more then a standard drag and drop program where you set up folders and places files on your smc's.......it should have really come with your gp32, but I had 2 versions on the cd's I sent to anti, one was the original and one had been tinkered with to work with windows 98 and usb and all that, I sware to god I put it on the cd's, but it could be on my old computer so i'll double check and get back to you later......

But for now Im going to sleep a rather good night off......
