So Gouken is basically named after a special move? This must be confusing during the battle with i.e. Ryu. "SHORYUKEN!!" Gouken: "What is it?" Ryu: "Err, nothing, that's just what I'm used to say while beating up my opponent" "Ah, allright, go on".
If Gouken isn't dead, then maybe Goutetsu isn't too, and Capcom can bring him back somehow as well! >_<
:banghead: No. Gouken is the real name. Originally, in SF2 on the Super Famicom/SNES and Championship Edition on the Genesis/Megadrive, the ending quote for Ryu was that you must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance (or similar). Sheng Long was a mistranslation of the Pin Yin translation for Dragon Punch in Japanese, literally a Chinese whisper. So it should have said, You must defeat my Dragon Punch to stand a chance. This mistranslation confused the folks responsible for the manual/or they decided to play on the mistranslation, that part is unclear, and explained that Ryu and Ken were trained by their Sensei 'Sheng Long'. And from there the myth/confusion began. This was continued by EGM when they created an April fool about a hidden fighter in SF2 Turbo called Sheng Long, who Capcom used as inspiration for Gouki/Akuma. Later, Gouken was a character in SF manga who became part of real SF canon.
