Just wondering if anyone here owns one of these handhelds, and your general thoughts on it please? I'd really like to know how good the Neo Geo emulation is with GnGeo, as well as CPS2, SNES, MD and PC Engine if possible.
IF you like your retro games with an analog stick, go for it. I'd go for a Dingoo A320 instead, as it emulates everything you want just great for less money. LCD is inferior, D-Pad is (obviously) better. Homebrew scenes are still active for both handhelds, also there is the precessor to the Caanoo, the Wiz, which has a (shitty) D-Pad and an OLED screen. Emulation is "better" on the Caanoo due to the 800MHz ARM vs the 336 MHz MIPS of the Dingoo, but the underdog performs very well in comparation and everything besides PSX and some (not all SNES games with special chips is 60fps or close. I only own a Dingoo for two and a half years now and i'm obviously biased towards it. Dingoo hackers are crazier too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qI4zYo7bjM And i hacked countless PS3s of friends back then, when no other methods besides the USB boards were available. Developement has gone back somewhat, but future looks bright, OpenDingux was just released. Surely was the best buy my mom ever did for me... Maybe have a look at one of these new chinese Android handhelds like the JXD600 or the Yinlips too, they seem rather good. But i really can't imagine playing retro games with an analog stick like on the Caanoo. ;-)
Get a PSP The GP32 was cool when all we had was the shitty GBA, but now? the last GPs sucked so much gamepark its out of hardware now.
I wanna get a Dingoo, the PSPs D-pad sucks way too bad to play any game that needs you to move diagonally even a little bit. Or maybe I'll just order the iControlpad for my phone instead...
Well, have a look: http://www.openhandhelds.org/index.php Big filearchive for most open handhelds.
I would say if you are going just for the basic stuff(like Neo Geo, CPS1/2, SNES and Genesis, PCE) just get a Dingoo, it works wonderfully for these old systems. But if you want something more advanced, get a Caanoo or one of those "Yinlips", it has Android 2.2 on it and even runs n64!
