Does anyone know if I can grab a frame from something running via
    Windows Media/Real/Intervideo WINDVD?

I have a DVD that I want to grab at least one frame from it

    Any ideas???

Or can I download something else to do this?

I've always used the frame capture thingie in VLC media player. Its an open source/freeware sortof thing. There are ports for various OS's. Its ideal too for work-pcs with anal security policies since it plays xvid etc without having to install codecs :)

The option you want is called "snapshot" under the "video" menu (at least in my Dutch version). You can configure the output dir and picture filetype etc in the preferences somewhere.

You need to make WMP render using the GDI instead of DirectX, or overlays.

Tools > Options > Performance > Advanced > Uncheck all "Use Overlays"

This is for WMP9, if you're using 10 or 11 the process may be a little different but I'm sure the options are still there.

Just hit PrintScreen and paste it into your paint program.

also it's possible to capture a frame by open the OLD WMP (accesories > multimedia) and run the same file on it. after that you may capture any frames in the WMP. don't ask me why it works like that:katamari:

Nero Show Time takes screen grabs as well. I also have another porgram that does called err..... I'll have to check when I get home. Virtual Dub also captures frames.
