I've been playing GT4 for ages now, and I love it to death. The opponents are crap, but the courses and the feel of actually driving is second to none. However, the one thing that pisses me off is that we don't get to drive any Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, De Tomaso's, Bugatti's etc. What do PD have against European cars? Does some one else hold the licence to these? I'm sick of owning 37 'different' Skylines. Who ever dreamed of owning a Nissan?
These guys? Anyway, I know what you mean. Not enough US muscle cars either in the game. Where are my classic stangs and camaro's? But yea, who needs those when you have 100 variations of the skyline.
It has to do with licensing fees. They want too much money for their cars to be in the game. That is why RUF is used but not Porsche.
Cost to benefit ratio. Having the Ferrari license would sell more games but not enough to justify paying the extra fees.
Ferrari = License is on SEGA and MS hands Lamborghini = License is on EA hands DeTomaso = Really don't know why it isn't in the game. It was on R: Racing Evolution Bugatti = Don't know Porsche = Don't know. Curiously Polyphony Digital tested lots of cars that did not ended up in the game, and some of them were Porsches and Ferraris, and some curious cars like the Morgan Aero Le Mans. They probably have all this data ready for when they get the license to put those specific cars in the game. An example is that some cars that were hidden on the Gran Turismo Concept 2002 Tokyo-Geneva were final 3d models of GT4 (textures were improved). Some of these cars were the Alfa Romeo 147 and the Peugeot 306 Coupé. Anyway i would prefer having unknow car companies like Noble, Lobini, Koenigsegg, and more tuners (engine tuning, not something like The Fast and The Furious). Gran Turismo 4 is the best version of the series, and with good competitors being released soon ( Enthusia Professional Racing, and Forza Motorsport ) i bet GT5 on PS3 will be something even more spectacular. Till there, there's no better feeling that driving around Nordscheleiffe in a MB 190 Evolution or driving a Sauber C9 Prototype around Circuit de La Sarthe (a.k.a. Le Mans). PS: Do you believe i still don't have GT4? I only play it, when a friend that has the game, shows up to play some 2P games.
You'll find Porsches in Forza Motorsport (a decidedly non-EA game) so I'm thinking this is an incorrect statement. http://www.xbox.com/en-us/forza/default.htm?level1=enusgames&level2=catalog&level3=forza
You'd think by now PD would have so much money they could buy Ferrari, let alone the licencing costs. Perhaps they just have little interest in Euro cars, but I find that a little hard to believe...
You have to remember that the primary target audience for the game is still Japanese. Besides, I'd rather have 20 GT-R's than a damned Superbird or some crap like that, what the hell am I going to do with that on a track? Spin it out? The exotics would be nice I guess, but I like GT4 for it's ability to allow me to try out real tuning configurations on cars that I might actually own. I've actually made tuning decisions on real cars from experience in GT3 (i.e. how to lessen understeer in my now-sold WRX). If I want to drive something really retardedly fast, I'll just use an F1 car anyway. They finally put my 1971 KPGC-10 "Hakosuka" GT-R in the game this go-around too, it's about time. GT-R's > Muscle cars
but you have to remember audi, vw, bmw and mercedes or peugot and renault (dont know if the last one is in but i think so) are all euro cars did anyone found a interview or so where dp answered the question ? i read that for example ea wanted to concentrate more on the normal guy cars then on supercars for the need for speed underground series (which doesnt explain why there is no bmw in it :angry )
must be the years around need for speed porsche i think they owned the license for some years around the release of that game
