Hello. Long a timo I found that there was in plan to make PS2 game called Gran Turismo for Boys. I tried to search via google but there arent lot of information about game I found this: 09.11.04 - Kazunori Yamauchi of Polyphony Digital announced on a meeting in Tokyo that he develops the racing game Gran Turismo For Boys. It's a Gran Turismo version especially for children, by whom Yamauchi wants to ignite the enthusiasm for cars. Still no details are present yet or release date, the release after Gran Turismo 4 in Japan to however only take place. The price should be however very low. According to Yamauchi one considers even doing without a profit. This new spin on SCE's prized driving simulator targets the kids' market. Series producer Kazunori Yamauchi wants to increase the number of car lovers 20 years down the road, aiming to make automobile enthusiasts out of eight-year-olds. Release Date: TBA? Genre: Racing Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment Developer: Polyphony Digital IGN had 3 articles about this game. New Gran Turismo Boys, start your engines! by Anoop Gantayat NOVEMBER 9, 2004 Sony Computer Entertainment held a party in Japan today to celebrate the completion ofGran Turismo 4. Reporting from the event, Japan's Famitsu.com reveals a huge surprise: developer Polyphony Digital is in the planning phases of an all new entry in the series. Revealed by series producer Kazunori Yamauchi at the event was the Gran Turismo for Boys project. This new spin on SCE's prized driving simulator targets the kids' market. And by kids, we mean real young, like eight years or below. Explains Yamauchi, "I'd like young kids to understand more fully the fun of cars. Using the entertainment power of games, we'll be, in a sense, increasing the number of car lovers twenty years or so down the road." Defending this strange pet project even further, Yamauchi states: "If we don't grow to love cars in youth, we become adults who are uninterested in cars." So true, Yamauchi. So true. We're sure you're thinking this is all some sort of odd joke that accidentally ended up on the PS2 site instead of one of the Nintendo sites. We'll be honest -- we thought it was a joke too. We thought Famitsu had either gone nuts and posted a fake news story, or had been hacked in typical reserved Japanese fashion. Don't they celebrate April Fools day in November in Japan? But, rest unassured, this news is indeed real. Yamauchi even showed a graphic displaying pictures of happy young boys surrounding a Gran Turismo logo. Details on this spinoff were not revealed by Yamauchi, but he did mention that he'd like to release it at low price so that the kids will be able to purchase it. Currently, the project seems to be early in the planning stages, with the Gran Turismo for Boys name being more of a concept, to help us understand where Polyphony is aiming, than an actual title. And if the concept ends up including Online play, we're gonna have a tantrum. Gran Turismo For Boys in 2005 They weren't kidding! by Anoop Gantayat DECEMBER 29, 2004 When Polyphony Digital master chief Kazunori Yamauchi revealed in early November that his next project after Gran Turismo 4 would be Gran Turismo for Boys, we thought he was either joking or had been drinking too much of the celebratory sake provided bySony Computer Entertainment at the Gran Turismo 4 completion party. Now that he's mentioned the project a second time, we're much more willing to accept it: Gran Turismo for Boys is for real. In providing some year-end greetings for the readers of Japan's Dengeki Online website, Yamauchi mentioned that he and his studio are going to busy themselves in 2005 with development on the GT for Boys project along with Gran Turismo 4 Mobile. Sadly, he wouldn't provide further details on either title. Yamauchi also provided some talk about GT4, which just arrived to Japan this past Tuesday. Yamauchi expects publisher SCE to flood stores with copies of the game on launch day throughout all major territories, with Japan seeing 1,000,000 copies on day one, America seeing 2,000,000 copies and Europe coming in on top with 3,000,000 copies. Yamauchi believes that the game will cause a revolution in the automotive world. We're already playing our import copies of GT4, and can report that Polyphony has delivered an awesome racer. Will the team be able to top it with GT for Boys and GT4 Mobile? Looks like we'll find out some time next year. Gran Turismo Still For Boys The kids Gran Turismo is still in production, says producer. by Anoop Gantayat SEPTEMBER 25, 2006 One of the most assured pieces of gaming vaporware may see release after all. Famitsu.com, reporting from the Tokyo Game Show, got confirmation from Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi that development on Gran Turismo for Boys is still underway. We haven't heard anything about this PS2-based kids oriented GT title since Yamauchi announced it over a year ago at a Gran Turismo 4 party, causing concern that Yamauchi had been drunk at the time. Now on to another vaporware candidate, Gran Turismo 4 Mobile. Development on the PSP entry in the Gran Turismo series still seems to be under way. Said Yamauchi regarding this game, "We're of course considering PlayStation 3 and PSP connectivity, similar to how a PC connects with a cell phone. I still can't comment though." So in addition to Gran Turismo HD (Japanese PS3 release in December) and Gran Turismo 5 (planned for PS3 release in 2008), keep Gran Turismo for Boys and Gran Turismo 4 Mobile on your release calendar. Famitsu also scored commentary from Yamauchi on a variety of Gran Turismo topics. The producer joked that the upcoming GT HD download service would be like iTunes, referring to it as a GT Tunes. He also provided some relief for those worried about the expense of downloading cars and tracks for GT HD. Polyphony hopes to make content that has been downloaded for GT HD available for use in the next GT. Yamauchi also explained some of the reasoning behind making car damage and advanced opponent AI available as downloads rather than as part of the December GT HD release. With online games, it's difficult to follow the current development practice of adding more and more features to a game prior to its release, explained Yamauchi. Instead, although as a developer it's difficult and feels a little strange, it's best to start service on something, no matter how small, and build it up with players. If it means getting the next Gran Turismo title in a little over two months, you won't find us complaining.
GT Wikia info: Gran Turismo for Boys, a youth-focused Gran Turismo, was announced in November 2004 with a scheduled release date of 2005. The game missed the target release date of 2005. In September 2006, Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed the game was still in development. In April 2008, while discussing plans for Gran Turismo 5, Kazunori Yamauchi was quoted as saying, "we're hoping to make Gran Turismo for Boys a feature within GT5." Last news I found for this game are from 2008 from CVG Interview, here is news that this game is coming. What's the current status with Gran Turismo Mobile for PSP and Gran Turismo for Boys (originally announced for PS2)? Yamauchi: I don't think Gran Turismo Mobile will make this year, but we are hoping to make the PSP version a satellite game, like an addition to GT5. I have to apologise because so much of our effort and energy is going into making the PS3 version that it's making it very difficult for us to work on the PSP version. The same goes for Gran Turismo for Boys, but we're hoping to make that a feature within GT5. So instead of making it a separate game, it will come as a simplified mode within GT5? Yamauchi: Yes.
Honestly, Mr. Kazunori lacks a bit of focus. He promises too much stuff. Hope he learnt the lesson with GT5.
For all we know, Polyphony took that game and worked it into GT4 or GT5. Or it's still in development for another 5 years and is a launch title for the PS5.
The fact Sony have now announced a Gran Turismo movie (?!) suggests he's learned nothing from the whole GT5 saga...
