Does anyone know the story behind this disc? It says not for sale on the cover and disc. I'm wondering if it was some sort of promotion disc. Yakumo
Did you get it at Hard-Off by any chance? I picked up two PSX games in those slim cases, they say "PROMO - NOT FOR RESALE" on the disc (and one also says that on the manual)... they were only 100 yen apiece :smt033
Yes, as far as I know it was part of a campaign to promote the release of Grandia in Japan. However I don't have it myself it seems that the demo allows you to visit a harbour and some underground bar, as well as use magic and special skills in battle. Three movies were also included on the disk. One source says it was given away for free by a Japanese games magazine. A second one however says that Japanese people could get it by sending in some postcard which was available at video game retailers, one of the 10,000 copies initially available was then sent to them.
Ijust had a look at the disc and it seems that the internet sources are wrong. The disc features the Grandia opening (FMV & Real time) then you can play a volcano level, see character profiles and visit many different areas within the game and watch some FMV CG Renders. The info that the sites I saw say that you play a dungeon level. No dungeon level that I saw. I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow. Yakumo
There's a special package that comes with a mini music CD (single) and a pretty nice pamphlet. I've had one for ages, but never scanned it in and posted it at Japanese Gaming. If I'm not mistaken, didn't Assembler have one posted on the main board about 2-3 years ago?
