Re: Second the 6600gt Exactly what I suggested. :-D Though be careful with the AGP 8x version, as it could be considerably worse. Isn't out yet. :smt045
HL2 will run great on Nvidia cards. It is just that if you have a 9600 Pro Radeon card, HL2 will run pretty well on medium settings because Valve optimized the game for it. Again though, this game will run flawlessly on any Nvidia 6600 and up video card.
I am looking to build a new computer soon, since I desperately need one, and of course I want a good graphics card. After searching, I found one that looked good, however I don't really know much about graphics cards. So, is the nVidia GeForce FX5700 video card, 256Mb DDR, 128-Bit, TV-Out/DVI, AX AGP any good?
No, it's quite poor. It's tricky with graphics cards; they try to make you think a 256 MB card is better than 128 MB one, which is often not the case. If you're going to build a system, and have a decent amount of money, build a PCI Express based rig. That's the standard of the future, and you can get a graphics card that utilizes PCI Express for $200-$250 that will hand Doom 3 and Half Life their asses. It's a 128 MB Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT. :smt023
Or two :smt023 :smt023 http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041123/index.html It's the Voodoo 2 all over again! Personally, I wouldn't recommend any GeForce FX cards - they're just lame in general. It really depends on how much you want to spend on a card - you could spend about $200 or whatever on a 9800 Pro, but you'll be buying into old technology (the 9800 Pro has actually been discontinued - there's just a lot still floating around) which isn't going to be worth it in the long run - even Doom3 doesn't run that great on them. *Or* you could save up an extra $50-60 (I don't know what the US prices are really) for the AGP version of the GF 6600 GT, which is significantly better in most games. There's a review at http://www20.graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041119/index.html And, contrary to what some may think, the AGP version of this card is barely slower, if not slower at all, than the PCI-X version.
I was looking for a card for about US$100 that is DX9 compatible (Doom3 and HL2, yammm)....does such beast exist?
I need a High end graphics card to work with 3D design, video edition and many other design necessities. I use a 256MB NVidia GeForce FX5700 (By Chaintech, who also makes cheaper versions of these cards, Approved by Nvidia and all, I think) Not only are my render times small, but also I can work on dual desktops (two monitors), and also play Doom3 without a hitch. And it cost me 1790 pesos, which is almost like 150 dollars. I think that's an option. PLUS the box has a weird Saint-Seiya like guy shooting an arrow as "cover art".
