https://webcache.googleusercontent....lator-and-then-go-bankrupt-because-of-piracy/ Or here's a nice news article that tl;dr's it.
I've said it before, but you really have to be an entitled shit to pirate an indie game. That said, the Internet has made at least one generation of entitled, whiny little bitches who want everything for free.
I've actually seen a bunch of comments on private trackers and there were plenty of people who had already bought it or they at least said they were going to buy it more as a donation than a real purchase.
I'm surprised it took this long for someone to make a game development sim inspired by Game Dev Story! Also, that forum most is very ironic, I wonder if the message got through to the dude?
I'm tired of paying for games that I then can't return or that are/run like garbage. I "trial" a game first (if there isn't a demo" and If the game's good I buy it. With this game though I'm playing the W7 demo when it comes out and then buying when it hits steam.
The masses don't yet grasp DRM free means there already are little if any restrictions toward pirating. Those who fall for a fake copy deserve this.
Nice idea, though I doubt it'll make much difference. I hope it does as game piracy really is driving the industry into despair, it's especially bad with a little indy game like this. The 'try before you buy' aspect is one I tend to agree with though, especially with digital media which cannot be sold on - personally, I'm happy to be a console boy, and at least for now, still getting physical copies.. What I hate is when publishers (usually in the music industry mind) complain that 10,000,000 illegal downloads = 10,000,000 lost sales. I've bought plenty of albums after a sneaky 'try before I buy' that I otherwise would never have considered!
I download for a different reason. I only did current movies, anything else I did is over 10 years old game so I won't need to pay $500 on eScam. Anyway no *local* movie theaters are offering any form of captioning or subtitling for the deaf so when I buy a ticket to watch it, I consider the ticket I paid a right to let me watch it again with subtitle. When I find a subtitle file on the internet I download the movie and play it with the subtitle. If I still like it I buy the DVD or BD when it comes out. And I'll stop downloading the movies when the dumb theaters get off their butt and install the captioning feature. This feature has been available for many years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rear_Window_Captioning_System
I've been addicted to this game but I seem to be horrible at it...I can't figure out how to keep certain genres successful. In reviews it will say oh "Wolverine and Action is a good combination - 4" It's something where I feel it needs to give more feedback than the few canned review lines they give you as they tend to quickly repeat.
According to studies that's quite literally the entire generation born from 1980 to current times. The most narcissistic and self entitled generation in history.
I have added this to my soon-to-buy list only because of the DRM thing (though I also loved Game Dev Story, in which this is based).
I remember the Invicible Scorpion DRM from Serious Sam 3, bet that DRM made even the people who bought the game to download the pirate one.
I thought that was awesome :friendly_wink: I can't imagine how frustrating that would be if you didn't know it was invincible!
Minecraft was having DRM during the Indev, but at the start of Infdev Notch removed DRM due to problems. Since the DRM is removed there are MORE THAN 10 MILLION pirate copies, especially the AnjoCaido launcher where it doesn't connect to login server. Later there are alot of crap like Mineshafter to replace the AnjoCaido by adding ability to players upload own skin and/or cape.
