Nintendo licensed the 3d led mirror technology for virtual boy, and originally it was green led light and not red as we came to know. Green leds use more power than red leds, so the switch was made to red. The original name was also to be "Game boy 3d" and the color of the shell grey like the original game boy. The color green of the screen was to play on the green screen of the game boy and the release date of game boy was ARPIL 21ST 1989, with GAME BOY 3D being available on JULY 21st 1995 or the same day in the month as the game boy. Virtual boy DID go on to be released on the same day.
Wow! This is excellent. I remember spending soooo much time on my Virtual Boy. I always ignored the "take a break" warnings. Today, I blame my poor eyesight on that. Haha. I think the green is easier on the eyes than the red was. Shame it didn't ship with green.
WOW!!!! THIS IS REALLY COOL!!!!! I LIKE THE HEAD GEAR TOO LOL!!!!!!!! I'm not even kidding, I hate having to lean into the stand to see what's going on!!!!!!
Hypthetically can LEDs inside be changed? Never did like red LED, but it looks like an array of SMD LEDs in one clear case mounted on PCB?
As far as I know they went with red because it was the cheapest apparently. However, I suspect this is an elaborate April Fools.
I hope somebody posts how to make that snazzy head mount, reminds me of those VR units they used to have at Six Flags in the 90s. And it looks like the headphones are Sennheiser too, so pretty good.
I saw this first and fell for it, then I remembered it's April 1st and became a bit unsettled... then I saw Mr T and the dream was over. Too good to be true! :'(
Green would be a good idea as the human eye is most sensitive to it. Granted green LEDs were hardly cheap.
Hah, I really believed it until scrolling down... A+ for the effort, Assembler (and congrats on 5000 posts, APE!)
Hahaha, had me fooled. Bandits! The lot of ye! I do agree that it does look much nicer in green... :topsy_turvy:
