I'm posting this from a Toshiba 405CS laptop. It has a 75mhz pentium cpu, 16mb RAM, win95 w/iE3.0. I'm getting tons of script errors but basic functionality prevails. I'm surprised this machine is capable.....
Madhatter that's incredible, imagine having sent us a post in 1995 and it's only just arrived today in 2007 - welcome to the future buddy! Btw, we all wear Nike trainers that can fly, have thermonuclear cars and the gaming industry is florishing at the helm of the leaders....Sega! Apart from that, not much has changed! ;-)
funny. i remeber when internet browsing required next to no resources... good old times! now no machine seems fast enough for basic tasks.
You make it sound like it's steam powered... When it's still quite a capable PC just the OS is slow. I have a Toshiba Libretto that I've used to connect to the internet before and that's had a 75Mhz Pentium PC running Windows 98. Still use it as it's a nice little laptop. Come back when you're logging on a 80286 DOS based PC. http://home.arachne.cz/
Well Win98SE was installed on my laptop before, but it took like a good 5 minutes for it to come up. I don't know jack about DOS, so I probably won't try to accomplish that.
madhatter256: you can upgrade some of the stuff on the old PC you have been surfing with. Since IE 5, if I remember right has been made to Windows 95. So go update what you can
I spent some time pruning Windows 98 down and on windows it still boots up faster then Vista does on my Core Duo and is quite nippy as for web browser I use an early verision of Firefox as it's quite good, failing that I boot into dos and use the program I listed, takes some setting up with CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files but it works. Failing that use a compact version of Linux...
