We have a good deal of member and I have passed the idea by dot50cal about us trying to arrange group purchasing. I do this frequently on the car forums I am on, and it saves a great deal of money. So given we have the ability to leverage several hundred purchases we can probably arrange some great deals. So the topic of this discussion is what kind of items would you be interested in?
mmmh difficult to say... audio/video components, Pc parts, console accessories, videogames soundtracks and merchandising are some ideas... i wonder if it can actually be done.
It's a good idea that will need some rigid organisation. Interesting for me for new (= current generation) games or consoles.
Well I would just solicit vendors and then if they respond with a discount or special price I would put it up.
If you're looking for vendors, check out (HKEMS) for video game accessories. Their order form says they try to give wholesale quotes. Most notably, they have their brand of maracas for the Dreamcast listed at $24 (Play Asia sells them for $39). I'd imagine the biggest problem right now on anything is going to be the fees for international shipping.
Well check out ems and we can get the rare pc comms card and the dreamcast saturn pad adapter. Both of these would probably be sellable at a profit as I've been checking ebay for a comms card for over a year...
I was more thinking Saturn pro action + comms card sets. We can probably arrange discounts, but I don't know if there's any one product we could get that a lot of people would want except maybe a nice video card.
It's a great idea. Group buys are a huge part of the 240sx community. Having a item at a great price will even bring in people who don't need or want the item just on the basis of it being too good to pass up.
Also, instead of just limiting to wholesalers and manufacturers, why not include people like Japan-Games who are able to source quality stuff and could give a deal on a bulk purchase. If someone like him could set up a group buy for 20 complete Satellaview units it would no doubt sell. (Sorry Japan-Games, I don't mean to put you on the spot, I just needed a quick example.)
http://www.hkems.com/m_main.htm What do you think, is this a Wideboy64 like thing or a knock off Transfer Pack?
Their site uses frames, so (if you're using IE) you have to right click in the content area and select "properties" to get the address.
This sorta thing would've been great for when those N64 Adaptoids were back in production. I really hated dropping $36 on "cables". :/
