Several months ago I burned a Disc for the Dreamcast containing SMS and Game Gear games and an emulator. Tonight I messed around with several games, Thought this disc I've come to appreciate the Game Gear in ways I never did before. The Colors are vibrant, the 8 Bit music is quite a bit more enjoyable than it should be and the games are...way better than I thought they would be. Fatal Fury special is respectable, Mega Man (as it is called just Mega Man) Is worthy of the NES games even if the sound is slightly off. Then there are MOST of the Sonic games which play pretty well. The Game Gear Double Dragon however, was total Ass. On the Master System side there's no FM Sound emulation bummer.

The Game Gear isn't too shabby perhaps I may get one in the future as if I needed more systems to collect for.

Anything on the GG I should give a spin? I AM bringing Retrocade back so......

Thankfully this didn't in fact mean Guilty Gear... Had a Game Gear as a kid (still works actually), G-Loc, Sonic 1 and Triple Trouble (2 is shit), Castle and Land of Illusion and Super Columns were some my favorite games for it. Tails' Adventure is praised by a lot of people, but at least back then I didn't like it that much.

Nothing really unique that hasn't been mentioned comes to mind, except Wonder Boy. I played the shit out of that as a kid on my GG. Too scared to go back now though. If you want a bit of a laugh check out the Mortal Kombat games on it.

There's also Master System Mortal Kombat. Still surprised at the quality of the Mega Man, Capcom didn't even touch this one and it's still very very good.

It was all out playing SMS/GG Games on a Dreamcast with a Saturn Controller. I really can't put in enough of a good word in for Fatal Fury special on GG. It's a good down port for what it is even if it axed half the cast.

SMS was my first console as well. It doesn't get much love from me. I still say Shinobi is best on the SMS.

I got a Game Gear a few months back and I have to agree with you. I bought the console mostly for the Sonic games (which is really all I have for it so far). The Sonic games (except Sonic 2) were much better then I expected them to be. I even found a fighter jet game (G.LOC) that I actually enjoy, which is something since most of those games just confuse me.

Personally, my favorite game for the system is Sonic Drift. I don't know why, but I just find that game the most fun.

Ristar is a pretty good game, I remember seeing that back when I was but a wee child.

Game Gears aren't that hard to find. I got mine at Goodwill for like $6.

Though you definitely want to pick up a spare AC adapter, luckily it uses the same one as the Genesis 2.

The Game Gear had quite a few decent games, but the awful screen (oh, and battery life) let it down. The colour was a bit washed out, and the vertical screen resolution (96 actual lines or so) was about 2/3 of the actual system resolution (144 lines) so there was some nasty interpolation going on (DOWNscaling!)

Sega should have found a better screen supplier than Citizen.

On my TV game gear games look fantastic though the Dreamcast via S-Video. If I remember correctly the Game Gear had a deeper palette than the Genesis so even though everything was still 8-bit there was more color depth due to the higher palette. Fatal Fury Special especally show this Duck King's stage is very impressive for an 8 bit handheld port. Also Mega Man there were more colors to the sprites

I think my favorite GG game was Dynamite Heady. Other than that, Cliffhanger was surprisingly good for a movie licensed game. I think it was better than the Genesis version... The Sonic games were good. I played a lot of Bally's Casino on that thing too. It taught me how to play craps.

GG & SMS are awesome. Some of the ports done for it are amazing (dynamite head, rinstar & gunstar heroes). I personally still find Sonic 1 for GG fantastic (been playing it on my 3DS a lot last weekend).
