Just came across this, looks like a lot of fun! My question is how? Are the camera views already built in to the game and the guy has just opened them up? Or has he created his own animations/views? Video 1 Video 2
He just changed the location of the camera. I think every Grand Theft Auto ever done since GTA III, except Chinatown Wars and Advance, have a first person view hack. Even on consoles, Playstation 2, Playstation Portable and, obviously, XBOX. But most of them, GTAV included, just suck, many graphical problems, low quality car interiors (there's no need to do better since there's no FPV on vanilla version) and bad POV while driving or walking. In my opinion, it just not worth even the try. The only good mod i've ever seen for consoles (aside Riivolution on Wii) is the 60FPS version of Crysis 2 in XBOX 360.
I saw the other day that they're going to release GTA V for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. I didn't buy the 360 or PS3 versions because I wanted to wait until the PC version comes out. Given how long it's taken for that to happen, I could have just gotten one of the console versions in the meantime. But it's not a game I'm dying to play, so the wait wasn't an issue. Anyway, now that it's coming out for the PC, I might have to get it. The only reason I really play GTA games is just to drive around and crash into things/people, randomly kill people, try to see how many stars I can get before I get arrested, etc. It's great for just fucking around. The story and the missions don't interest me very much. But that's okay, because the game is built in such a way that you can do whatever you want. I would definitely say it's overrated as a series, but they aren't bad games. They're just not incredibly "deep" in any sense of the word.
GTA III was a milestone in game design. Other than that the IP likely owes part of its success on brand power and the mandatory news scandal every time a new one is released.
I've also heard of some issues with this mod. There's no reticle for aiming, which makes gunplay extremely difficult. Even if it had a reticle, its still rather hard to control. Given its GTA, gunplay is pretty integral.
Do you have any links for the XBox (original XBox) mods for first person in GTA3/Vice City/San Andreas, please. Can you turn from first to third person viewpoint (and vice versa) whenever you like? If so, then it's not a major problem if first person shooting is bad in the game.
I don't believe that it can be switched on the fly, but I'm not absolutely sure. I will need to check in on that.
So now I'm wondering if Rockstar had planned to have first person on the 360/PS3 but were simply unable to, based on the mods that were found several months ago.
I think they probably didn't do it for the technical limitations (e.g. when it comes to the new high-quality interiors of vehicles) of the old generation. Also, I'm absolutely amazed. And I thought GTA V couldn't possibly get any better, well, I was wrong. Gawd, am I hyped. If this gets Oculus Rift support, I'd even save up for a gaming PC. This is how hyped I am - I would pay $1500+ just to play GTA V in first person view with Oculus Rift hahah. Can you imagine the insane experience of driving to a mission in first-person view while some KI is talking to you in the car, and you could just casually glance over to the right (with oculus rift) to look at the character while he/she is talking to you? Driving an SUV up a mountain in the rain at night, walking around. Oh, and this totally changes everything about prostitutes in GTA. XD
Word. Word. And... Word. GTA V for next gen is a good reason to finally jump in it for me, luckily I did not have time to play more than a couple of hours of GTA V on 360.
While I personally prefer GTA IV, when I get a new console around Christmas I will be upgrading GTA V. The preferred console will probably be PC, though.
I suspect they were inspired by the various first person mods that have been made by fans. After all, the GTA series have always been third person. Now that I think about it, first person is a good fit for the series. The goal of the games is to create this huge, living, breathing world, wouldn't it make sense to use a viewpoint that lets you experience it all up close?
Nice. Quite an incentive to give the game another shot. I guess I could have looked it up, so my fault on the laziness. Thanks for the info!
I was already going to get GTA V for the PC, despite already having it for the PS3 (it's extremely rare for me to buy the same game twice, but I really want to play GTA with fan made mods), but the fact that the PC version will support first person view, plus it shows you the altimeter when in an aircraft (landing the plane in GTA V was difficult on the PS3, since there was no altimeter) will make GTA V much, much more fun for me!
^^^This i can't wait to see what crazy stuff people will do to GTA V, especially since there's some pretty cool GTA IV mods they could port over
