    Well it's not that simple.
Redoctane was the maker of the peripherals.
They needed a game to sell their plastic guitars so they hired Harmonix to make the game.

After GH2 hit the market and Activision zoomed in on the small publisher and bought them.....but not the developer of the game: Harmonix.
So Activision hires a new studio (Neversoft) and they, in my eyes, raped the game and milked it till the udders were mere dry withered black stubs that broke off.

Harmonix however used their experience to develop Rock Band and have since improved on the concept so much I am starting to wonder what they will think of next. Though the fact they were sold off by Viacom for $50,- is not encouraging. I must add that for that $50,- the buyers also got the $150 million debt.

I never interesting to the guitar heroes games but from that move of Activision, i m sure in future they will kill more projects and studios like the last time with Bizzare Creations because the Blur not sell well, decide kick them out.I hope in future not see another studio dying from the hands of Activision.

Yeah, sounded too aggressive, I guess. But...
That's just, like, my opinion, man. (Lebowski, 1988)

I find it to be pseudo-gaming dribble... but then again, I like StepMania. So yeah, I'm a bit biased.

It's just that there was so much Guitar Hero stuff and after the sequels, it offered nothing new!

Hey, it's alright not to like music/rhythm games. It's fair to criticise their similarities, and the over-saturation of the marketplace. My take on them is that, as far as challenging hand-eye coordination goes, there's few purer experiences. Each to their own, though; some people don't much care about music in the first place and that's fine too.

    (Big Lebowski was 1998, btw.
edit - and it's also one of my favourite movies, probably my favourite of the Coen brothers')

Umm, did you read the article?

What do "will no longer be creating any more titles" and "will still release downloadable tracks" mean to you guys, then?
