Just thought I'd share something I discovered the other day. I was wondering if it would be possible to use a Guncon 2 while using the component video output from the PS2. I tried this the other day, and I can now confirm that yes you can. Here's what I did: I connected the usb connector from the Guncon 2 to the PS2. The RCA cable from the Guncon 2 was far too short to reach my TV, so I used an extension (just a female to female adapter and a standard RCA cable). I also found that you have to use a splitter (i.e. an adapter with one male RCA connector on one end and 2 female connectors on the other end) to connect the RCA cable from the GC2 to the TV. This was the case even when using composite. So, I connected the splitter to the the Y (green) input on my TV, and connected both the GC2 and the Y cable from the PS2. Success! It works perfectly. A bit of an obscure detail, but I thought maybe this would interest someone. Obviously, this only works with a CRT. Incidentally, some thoughts on Time Crisis 2 (the only GC2 compatible game I have at the moment): looks awesome. Just like the arcade version, but with texture smoothing, and I believe it uses higher poly models. It plays exactly like the arcade version. The GC2 is really accurate. 2 things annoyed me: horrible voice acting, but what do you expect? It's not about the story anyway. Music changed for the worse. They changed a lot of the music, and in some parts there isn't really music but just a rhythmic tapping. Seems really half-assed. Anyway, I hope this helps someone.
You can also get 3rd party Component Cables that have a separate Guncon Composite connection on them. I like TC2 on PS2. I also enjoy it more than I did TC3. I haven't tried Crisis Zone and couldn't get the Japanese GunVari collection. I do have Vampire Night which is a good lightgun game too. Check it out.
That's cool. I actually have the official Sony component cables. I saw them for like $5 at a Gamestop so I snapped them up. Not like it really matters in terms of video quality, but I always prefer 1st party stuff. When you played TC2, did it have the parts where the music was just "tap tap tap tap" over and over again, or is there something wrong with my copy?
I always thought it worked normally by just plugging the Guncon yellow connector into the green connector on the component cables.
Nope. Both the cable coming out of the Guncon 2 and the component cable are male, so you can't just plug one into the other. The only solution I could find (someone mentioned it on a forum) was to use a splitter. The idea seemed absurd to me, but it works. I can only assume that Namco must've included some kind of splitter with the gun when it was in stores.
The Guncon 2 when bought new comes with a cable you must be missing. It's in this picture. http://www.estarland.com/images/products/27/21527/35727.jpg About TC2, I don't remember any oddity with the music like that, but it's been a long while since I've played it.
Vampire Night is indeed a great game. Still saddens me that this never materialized on DC. Obviously some work was done for it as the loading and between scene screens have the image of a DC lightgun in the bottom right corner so maybe some day something may just emerge from the ether.
Yes, he's probably missing it: http://www.quickerbuy.com/assets/ph...-adapter-cable-original-playstation-2-ps2.jpg Here's the manual The only difference is to connect the green plug from the component cables connected on the PS2, to the extra cable (with a yellow female video connector) and it should work.
