Gunstar Heroes Demo Cart Mega Drive

Discussion in 'Rare and Obscure Gaming' started by GenkiVideoGames.com, Aug 27, 2006.

  1. Greetings. Just curious if anyone knows much about this Gunstar Heroes Demo we came across? It is supposedly playable, but is it just a few levels from the series or are there any differences in the game over the final master version? The shop is asking a small fortune for it, but being a Treasure demo I suppose they know they'll find a buyer. Not come across too many cart demo's here, so if anyone can oblige it'd be appreciated.
    Cheers and happy hunting.

cant you just bring a working console and ask them? If the shop isnt too big and visited, of course.

I have this, cart only sadly. A complete copy is cart box and flier sheet.

You can choose any of the normal 4 levels at the start as usual, but if you press a button down can select any of the last three too. It plays through pretty well, very near completion I guess. It goes up to the first boss on the last level. Sounds effects are off and/or non-existant in parts. Music is there. I think the standing slide isn't. All iirc of course, I'll have a play tomorrow.

There's a Dynamite Headdy one too. Both are fairly easy to find really, and not too pricey either.

There's a set that's been on YJ for some time now at 8,000 yen w/ no bids.

  6. Thanks for the help. Having never come across it before it did admittedly set pulses flying, but never mind. Still a nice piece to have for a Treasure collector.
While we've got your attention, any ideas what these fellas for the Mega Drive are about? I'd guess they are Hong Kong bootlegs. Tenchi O Kurau is well appreciated here - do you happen to know if this is a war game like on the Famicom or similar to the Saturn/PC Engine arcadey action titles? Forgive us if this is old ground, but sourcing from Japan we're not too up on our bootlegs... Honest guv!

Cheers for the thought ..but I've been tracking that for a while. No box, manky flier and the price is more than what it usually goes for :-(.

    @ Genkipeterman

They're all pirates. All 1on1 fighters too.
The top one could house one of two carts..Tekken Special 2 Tag Tournament or Tekken Special 3. (I have both carts with that case put it that way). The next 3 are obvious and I'd be interested of you get them;-) (or even of you don't lol). The bottom one..I assume that's the one you mean as Tenchi o Kurau..I was sold a copy of it as Tenchi wu Kurau 3 put it that way..but when you boot it up you see its a one on one fighter called 'Chinese Fighter'.

I do have 2 pirate scrolling fighters, both of which are very Tenchi wu Kurauesque, and both of which are really rather good (and bloody htf now). Links below are good, better than I could be arsed to do at least!

  8. Wow man, you sure know your stuff. To be honest we haven't come across man pirates in Japan (not even with all those island- sorry) And I guess they are pirates if they are just copies of the Tekken, KoF etc. licenses. But those last two links you posted look really nice - are they original games (ie bootlegs) or rip offs of little known coin - ops I wonder? I suppose if the Chinese market was a little behind in terms of the hardware cycle you'll get demand for new releases and such titles coming out... But those last two you sent the link for look far more like a Tenchi O Kurau than the one we had seen...
    Keep up the good work.

you've made my day with those 2 links you've posted at the bottom - never have I come across such a thing, and I'm a huge fan of side scrollers.

just a headsup - I am picking up kof '98 and might be able to pick up top fighter 2000. might be up for a trade.
also have to get megaman x3 for megadrive.

btw - rarest bootleg I've come across has been a kof pirate for the snes/sfc. I only saw a picture of the cart and the start up screen so I can't comment on what it was like - and I was 'this' close to buying it - shame I couldn't find a way of sending money to the guy in brazil at the time. never before had I even heard of this game and south america is a jungle, where the trees are bootlegs, and the vines are pirates.

will do, though those pirates are readily available over here. anywayz, will let you know.
I have a lion king pirate around here which plays really nicely - you seem to run across the great wall of china, chinese music in the backround. quite a laugh.

  14. Thanks for the info. Is the Dynamite Headdy promo on one of the PS2 compilations too? Its nice to think there are sufficient differences to make it like an update as it is a great title. Plenty of chicken oriental (mental) madness involved which always goes down a treat with me.

Sadly not, they included the gunstar one. I was also a bit dissapointed that they didnt include the alien soldier prototype which was under a different name.

  16. Alien Soldier Proto... :katamari: That must be a real find. Is it much different to the final version in terms of difficulty? Any extras in there such as killer bosses that didn't make the final version...? I can feeel me chops slavering and my fingers twitching at the thought of playing it.... :110:

ive seen some screens from the beta, and its funny cause orignaly you played this guy that was in this robotic armor. The levels for the most part looked like early versions with cosmetic difference in the background. It was also called something else too.

Sadly I never saved the pics posted on the site that had it. The site i guess went down cause i cant find it.

I accidently stumbled upon it when searching for pics of the game on google images. However the shots came from a magazine. Anyone want to do any hunting in old issues of egm or any other magazines durring that era?

  18. I suppose game characters go through quite a few variations before they settle on one they are happy with, but its a real shame the site you saw them on is no more. It must have been quite a discovery and quite a buzz to see them for the first time...
    You learn something everyday eh?
