I had one of these cheap S-Video cables that came bundled with a purchase and after a while, the plastic case snapped open right when the video stopped working (starting with S-Video then RCA). After seeing the aftermath, I noticed that the wires were poorly soldered and heatshrinked, and that there were 16 pins in the back. (My other video cable, the official one is doing fine.) Considering the back of the Dreamcast video port also has 16 pins, it has me wondering if I could use that connector and build some kind of video box instead of drilling into my console. I assume RCA and S-Video would be a snap, considering a multimeter could help me find the right pins. But for VGA, I wonder how it's done since the guide I've seen on the internet may use a different set of points as it also requires the installation of a circuit board to process the signal. My question is has anyone had any success hacking the connector part of a Dreamcast video cable, or for any console in general?
Just follow that guide: http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/dreamcast-internal-vga-mod/ but adapt for an external case!
