Is anyone else but me pissed that they are making the content episodic?

Now I get to lay out $18.00 every other month for extra levels from valve,
as having a whole new expansion would probably
    a. take them too long
    b. make them less money
    c. episodic is the "steam" design

I'm not giving ANYONE my credit card online, esp if they are randomly
releasing shit for $$ here and $$ there.

I'll buy the pressed media just to fuck them over on the packaging costs.

Not for nothing, but I can wait for them to combine all the expansions (sans bugs by then, and I assume there will be some huge bugs).

That or get the episodic exp on ebay used for a song.

Don't they realize that by having so little content per purchase, people will tire and sell off, hurting sales versus a legit full expansion?

Im right there with you. This has to be one of the stupidest things valve has done.

I love half life and all but im not willing to hand out my credit card number for some data to be streamed to me. I will buy the pressed disc as well, if only becuase I want to be able to install it offline or install it on other computers. I know it saves them money and stuff but people want real physical material when it comes to games, especially us collectors.

In fact if Valve hadent realeased it to retail I think I would be done with them. Heres hoping they see the light and keep releasing games in retail and downloadable format.

    $18!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Thats pretty retarded. Oh well, since HL2 is now rumored for the 360 maybe all this content will be included with that version?

I know I know, it'll be downloadable content for the low low price of 1000 gamer points or whatever. [IMG]

The new Sam and Max game is going to be episodic too.

I can see the appeal to developers, it means less crunch and less stress for staff, and more profits for the creative side rather than the publishers and retailers. I'm just not seeing how the user benefits. I want something solid to keep and a DVD-R doesn't really cut it.

Well, as alchy said we've to look at this as the lesser of two evils. This may be the last chance of getting a new wave of creativity in the market. Is this or another crash...

Plus, let's remember guys we are a minority and most PCgamers I know (hell, I'm the only old-school console gamer in my group) dont seem to have a problem with Valve's new system, some of them even applaud the decision...

Anyway, I still have to end HL2 (left it at the middle or ravelholm) so unless this new episode is good, and I mean REALLY good (like, gordon start talking shit or something) then I'm waiting for the bundle.

I heard its gonna be 3 episodes, I wonder if the 3rd will be the end of the whole HalfLife storyline.

Maybe, much like Halo 3 should be the last Halo ;-).

Seriously though I'd rather a proper resonably fully featured expansion pack, it makes things simpler, on the flip side having this system means it's more likely people will obtain the expansion pack due to ease meaning if it had a multi it would actually be used.

I am however entirely against the price as it converts to about $35 (AUS) add $15 (AUS) more and that's the cost of any normal expansion pack.

Steam has allowed greater amounts of people to play Darwinia and Shadowgrounds and for that reason alone I'll barely tolerate it.

Just more herding of the sheep towards a pay-per-play model.

$20 for a game that lasts about 2-3hours long is not worth it. You can buy Half Life2 for that amount and get a lot more hours out of it. In order for episodic gaming to be successful it has to be cheap or provide a decent amount of gameplay quality for the price you pay. I pay $60 for cable and get to watch some good TV channels, so that makes me feel that I am getting my money's worth, so paying $20 for a game that turns out to be mediocre and not last as long as i'd hope, then I'd like those $20 back..

Another point perhaps worth mentioning is the fact that these constant episodic releases run the risk of killing any potential anticipation surrounding half life 3, especially if they make increments in technology throughout.

If we are gradually led into half life 3's glory then we are least likely to be engrossed by it, and more importantly, least likely to care.

£11 for 8 hours worth of new half life 2 ?

Worth it to me and i enjoyed sin ep1 for the same price its was undemanding pure shooter fun.

Im on my 9th time of finishing hl2 and welcome any new content and £11 is cheap in my eyes (i know the exchange rate is working in my favour)

I will be buying the instore copy so it can sit with my normal pc, collectors metal tin, and xbox promo copy :)

There will be only 2 more eps in half life 2 one e.o.y. 2006 one same time 2007 then on to the new engine and half life 3 if im lucky :)

If it is actually 8 hours+ of gameplay I'd be alright with paying a tenner I suppose. The original HL2 didn't last much more than that. I was expecting more like 3-6 for this new episode.

i read that its a 3 episode expansion, im anoyed too but they are also selling them at retail too, still its kinda ridculess but if you look at it its teh same price all together as when hl2 came out , which was 60 depending on where you went. Pc gamers arent anoyed since many are people use to paying monthly fees for wow or buying characters and such.

After Half-Life 2's sudden pre-emptive ending they should probably be giving this out for nothing though. If it has OVER 8 hours to the AVERAGE gamer and adds somethings NEW to the mix, then possibly just maybe I could see a point.

All well and good, but 5 hours gameplay? Bit short in my opinion.

I agree with you Assembler 20 bucks for 4-6 hours of play they're having a laugh. The worst part is that I haven't been able to buy the damn thing through Steam everytime I try to click purchase I get a 404 error, I checked the support no mention of it, though my firewall has the right ports opened and so on. :banghead::banghead:

How's that for effective content delivery? Another point is that in the UK we don't pay $20 for the game in store but £20, so much for supposed mega rich UK people. :banghead::banghead: again...

Let's hope I can get it tonight...

The only version I'd be interested in is the retail version, and for £20 they can fuck right off.
