http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=58579 Looking at a possible summer release - perhaps the chance to continue Dr. Freeman's adventures without waiting another 6 years? Let's hope so! :-D I just hope they don't decide to do a Steam-only release, or if they do, ship some goodies with it like the HL2 Steam bundles. As awesome a content delivery system as Steam is, I like having physical boxes and stuff lining my shelves.
W00T! I just played through Opposing Force again and it was still amazing (though the end felt like a rush job), I hope this new addon matches its quality
Opposing force, ha! I played it and got to what I thought was the first boss. Wrong! End of game, wow, I killed a plant.
I played Opposing Force for the first time after beating HL2, and it still played very well to this day. something that sadly can't be said for Gunman Chronicles. Now if I could only get my hands on Blue Shift...
Blue-Shift is 'tiny' in comparison to Opposing Force and thats saying something when you consider how 'small' OF is ...I think It took me about 15-20 minutes to finish Blue-Shift ! ...I remember that when they released it they had to release at a special extra low price price because it was so 'small', loads of peeps still complained, but they missed the point, that the add-on was purely to fill in the story of Barney. ...I loved every minute ...'Redemption' was my favourite add-on, it wasn't official, but it was damn fine for its day !
I have to play Opposing Forces now. I hung out w/ this chick from High School this last week when I went home, who's married to an Art Director at Gear Box. By association I'm not required to try their whole library I guess.
Take the level in HL where you encounter the soldiers, and stretch it into a game. And the hype of enhanced NPC ai is bullshit, the guys with you barely help you. It's like in HL 2 , all they do is run out and die.
Gunman Chronicles, thats the only hl1 expansion i havent played... sounds lite im not missing much. hows the story atleast?
I didn't get too much of the story, the game was so abysmal. There was something with dinosaurs, and shooting them, and for some reason everyone was dressed like old Civil War cavalry troops or something. It's bad, believe me. The only way I could recommend getting it is if, like me, you happen across it for $1.99 at an EB Games used or something. Hell, you'd even feel cheated if you downloaded the game.
The thing with Gunman Cronicles is that you have to remember it has NOTHING to do with HL the game. It's not even and add-on, it's a standalone. ...It's only connection is that it runs on the HL engine, so the textures and controls look like HL, thats it, no more, no less! ...It's got a 'fun' section in it where you get to use and drive a tank. ...This was the first 'official' time that you could do this with the HL engine, so for this alone it's worth cheching out IMO. ...The dinosaur bit is at the start of the game, which is forgettable, but you get some nice weapons which helps to balance things up.
I thought it included something about customizing your weapons? And what's this Redemption addon, is it Single Player?
Even for a rabid HL fan like me, Gunman Chronicles was a disappointment. I wouldn't bother finding it... *goes to download Redemption*
