Hi all, Lurked here once or twice. I have a theory to attaining multiplayer half-life on dc (and mods too at that point). Before steam there was the "WON" version of half-life. All the network functions were contained in the game instead of a side app (steam). Im not 100% on this but i think thats the case. If someone ported/intergrated the half-life WON version into the current working builds of HLC, it may work. Network functions were intergrated into doomDC. Maybe theres a way to intergrate WON into Half life gold. If it did work then pretty much all mods would be online capable for dc. Counter-Strike DC with multiplayer would be the coolest thing of the 21st century imo This is just a theory of mine. As interested in a discussion of why this wouldnt work than why it would honestly
There is no source code available for the leaked WinCE build thus said improvements cant be made. I know there is a Quake build that can play Half-life maps but this escapes me ATM And finally there is a Half-Life Mod for Doom I'm pretty sure.
HI TerdFerguson, Last month I was working/changing the dll file of Half life 2 Survivor.(pc version) Replaced al the ip´s to my own network, the purpose is to make a app to host easy multi player games. Concept is working Back to DC Its been awhile since i booted my DC (shame shame ) I don´t know if there is a option to select multi player in DC half life After looking at youtube i know there is no option: But in the HALFLIFE_DC.EXE file you can find this: But in the folder there is no halflife.cfg or config.cfg, preset_a.cfg. its in the PAK0.PAK (of course... ) After looking a bit more in to the .EXE I found that there are commands for multiplayer in the exe. To me it looks like everything that is need to host a server is in the exe... Just away to launch binding a command in the config file? bring up console using DC keyboard.. but if the lan or dial up modem is not ported in code it will not work.. Just did a deal today for a dreamcast with 8 games 2 controllers for 85€ To burn coasters or not that is the question
As a interesting tidbit, a few years ago I ran into Randy Pitchford and talked about Half-Life DC. He actually confirmed that they also had the full multiplayer component up and running for Dreamcast :'(.
Who was it exactly that leaked it? I know in an article they said after they sold the singleplayer game they wanted to have a seperate multiplayer version and actually talked about supporting mods. The info is in the magazine article I requested over at Dreamcast Junkyard some years ago. http://www.thedreamcastjunkyard.co.uk/2010/07/reader-request-odcms-half-life-article.html Specifically this page.
Afaik the multiplayer component in post-won half-life doesn't really need steam. Steam.dll serves mostly as a drm and for that there are opensource steamemulators out. Test doing what dcnigma said and mess around with the console. To me personally it seems that a half-life compatible quake build is more plausible.
Trying to get the ide to work.... http://dcnigma.eu5.org/?p=125 But no Dreamcast custom bios... Something i need to get
