Pulling the trigger on my Emulator Box and I'm adding some games. The Speccy is on my list of things to gather up games for.

I'm not British so I have no affinity for the Speccy. To me they all look like a step above Tiger LCD games. BUT that thing could produce some good tunes.

All I know is somebody did a halfway decent port of DOOM to the thing. Beyond that I just know it as the home to shitty arcade ports. Anything on it that stands out? Anything worth playing just for the music?

Jet Set Willy! Hope you don't want to finish it, though - it's impossible!

The original 'Wanted Monty Mole' is a great platformer :) and just about any of the original 'Ultimate' (who then went to be RARE) games are well worth a look - Lunar Jetman, Underwurld, Knightlore, Alien8... Attic-Attack...

Bugaboo the Flea is also good fun :)

R-Type on the Spectrum is a technical marvel.

Hold on, no emu is complete without this one...

Probably one of the strangest titles... but also good fun :)

See you have Manic Miner on your list, my favourite Speccy game. There are a load of hack versions worth a look.

A few more worth a look:

    Atic Atac
    Skool Daze
    Dizzy (most are pretty good)
    Rainbow Islands
    Turmoil
    Pyjamarama

I think you had to grow up in the Spectrum/C64 era to look past the terribly dated graphics, and appreciate some really good games. I only emulate the Spectrum now using Spectaculator, my nostalgia using original hardware and waiting for tapes to load, then crash soon wore thin.

When I'm done loading up on Speccy games, the C64 and Amiga are next.

For me It was Radio Shack and Tandy computers I grew up on. We didn't have the same options you brits had in the some 50 shitzillion different computers.

With the old stuff, I usually go for the exclusives, i.e. the titles that appeared only on that platform or that platform had the best version of that title. That way I am not comparing it to something else.

Amiga was an excellent machine, the 1200 still commands a good price on eBay.

Benefactor was a good platform/puzzle game, and there's an unofficial extra levels disc should you manage to complete the official levels.

I've found http://www.worldofspectrum.org to be a great resource for finding some goodies. Getting abit OCD about finding Speccy Breakout clones now

    Almost done with the Speccy
