Halo 2 Multiplayer Alpha 01-15-04 Screenshots and Discussion

Hi everyone,

In case you haven't seen this thread, I've come into possession of a few Halo alpha/beta discs, which I'm planning on selling. Today, I took a few screenshots of this game running on my newly acquired and softmodded retail Xbox. I thought I might share them here, so you guys can have a glimpse into this unleaked build:


I'm not an expert by any means, but here are a few things I've noticed by comparing this build to my 07-03-04 Multiplayer Beta disc:

• A lot of the textures and background images appear to be different from the leaked July beta build
• As you can see in the pictures, I cannot access the main menu as the alpha build requires an access code to be input via Xbox Live
• However, unlike the July beta, this build overlays the "Sign in to Xbox Live" dialog over the main menu, so I could make out the following menu options: Campaign, Multiplayer, Xbox Live, Settings(?), Credits, Game Demos
• These options differ from the menu options in the July beta, which are: Campaign, Xbox Live, Split Screen, System Link, Options, Saved Films

I'm curious to hear what everyone's thoughts are on this. I don't actually have a copy of the final retail game to compare to, so if there's anything else particularly interesting about these screenshots that I missed, let me know!

Unfortunately there's not much else in this build that I can take screens of at the moment, since like I said, the game is locked out of the main menu and asks for an access code. However, I've spoken about it with a few people who are way more knowledgeable about this stuff than I am, and my understanding is that it would be fairly trivial to bypass that dialog box for someone who knows what the're doing. For now, I'll leave that task for whoever ends up with this disc.

 

If you can look on the files on the disk to see what maps and stuff is on the game.

and yes the xbe must be patch to bypass the xbl/code

 

XBE patches must be done. There's a few people who know what to do but you'll have to ask them

 

Thanks for the responses. I might look into getting the XBE patched, but in all likelihood, I'll leave the patching to the new owner of this disc when it's sold.

As for the files on the disc, I've attached the directory tree of my folder dump as well as a screenshot of the maps folder contents:

There definitely seem to be some significant file differences from the leaked beta build. I imagine the gameplay is pretty different as well!

Thanks, that's much better I'm so used to the output of a tree command it didn't even occur to me to just do a dir, lol.

Anyway, I've attached the new directory dump. Doesn't look like the dates are any good, but at least the file sizes are there!

 

Am I reading that right at the bottom where it says total size is about 2GB?

Edit: Nvm, total rip is about 435mb...it's too early to do math haha

 

Very interesting discs! Just imagine all the material that has been shoved out in the container at Microsoft...

 

It would be interesting to see this running.

Yep.

God damn. Good for you tho. It's probably one of your favorite franchises.
I was gonna bid, but the price got way too steep, and it's not one of my prioritized titles.

I cant get bouncing to work but we did get System Link going...
