The BBC reported, for a few minutes, that the PC version of Halo 2 will only work with Windows Vista. The Beeb has since taken down the story, meaning either they were wrong or it was embargoed information, but according to Addict3d.org, the story said the Vista version will support both single and multiplayer versions of the game, extra maps through add-on packs and tools to create your own maps. I recently interviewed Microsoft folk about Vista and my impression is that it’s going to be a long, long time before they start making Vista-only games. Though they did say they were handling the new operating system like a console launch. So who knows. Hopefuly MS relized how dumb of a move that would be if true.
Microsoft has announced that the PC version of Halo 2 will only work on the new version of Windows called Vista. The decision could make it expensive for many to play the game if they have to buy the new version of Windows and extra hardware for their PC. Microsoft has given no definite release date for Vista but it is expected to be available by the end of 2006 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4698072.stm
Who cares, halo 2 is ancient. PC will just be script hacked within a day. No more signifcant than halo 1 for pc was.
Halo2 only on Vista... Yo thanks MS! first you gave us one of the crappiest PC ports in history, the 1st Halo game took twice the hardware of the Xbox to run properly on a PC, and it still lagged... Now they say Halo2 is coming too, but only for Vista which is already being touted as a power hungry OS both in the CPU and graphic parts. Deciding to make the best-selling Halo 2 Xbox game a Vista-only title is likely driven by Microsoft's desire to get people upgrading to the new version of the Windows. Minimum specifications for Vista (formerly called Longhorn) will be released in the summer but information gathered from reviews of pre-release versions have given clues about its hunger for computer power. With Vista, Microsoft has made big changes to the way it handles graphics. Unlike other versions of Windows, it will need an advanced video card to get the most out of it It is also likely to demand a lot of computer memory and a sizeable hard drive. While these requirements are likely to be met by dedicated players who want to get the most out of games, many less keen players could struggle to comply. The decision to make only a Vista version of the best-selling Halo 2 game could significantly stunt the games appeal. I'm sooo fucking waiting to spend another 1000$ so I can play a 2 year old game that had bad graphics even when it was released! OMG!
"Yo thanks MS! first you gave us one of the crappiest PC ports in history, the 1st Halo game took twice the hardware of the Xbox to run properly on a PC, and it still lagged" Hm. You seem not to realize that the xBox doesn't have to run windows underneath the game, only its small optimized kernal. Although, it is silly to make it Vista only, and bad graphics when it came out? How so?
It's going to be like the first Halo, methinks - it won't suck half as bad using the mouse/keyboard combo, but it'll still be outclassed by the staples of PC FPS gaming. Halo 2 can't hold a candle to the likes of Doom 3, Half-Life 2, or FarCry.
I know, but there's quite a difference between running windows and need twice the power of the original source. Look for example sonic adventure for PC: you can run the thing on a PIII 600 with a Geforce, a hardware that was already the standart at the time of the Dreamcast (2000) and more than obsolete when the game came out in PC (around 2002 I think). It's kinda official that Halo was rushed on the PC, and thus the efficiency of the code is pretty low. And Halo2 had a lot of critics in the graphics dept.
Just a way to make money. Halo 2 was hell, but it does have a massive cult following who will pick it up just to see if there is anything new
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/sonicadventuredx/ guess there is, didnt hear anything about it at all
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PC-SONIC-ADVE...itemZ8255993206QQcategoryZ38591QQcmdZViewItem apprently so, and looking at the price it didnt sell for, didnt appear to do well at all
Bet it won't play on my 400MHz Celeron! It even has this really handy integrated graphics, which means you don't need to buy another graphics card! Bargain, and It plays games, I play solitaire, minesweeper and tetris on it all the time! Should have no problem with halo...
He did say the shittiest PC. I think i come quite close in the runnings with that, excluding Zilog and his army of P90's... I also forgot to mention an athlon 2000+ and an iBook G4...lol
