I don't hate it, but it's not the groundbreaking masterpiece everyone say's. And I can tell you now, the graphical pop-ups (textures, decals etc) will piss you off and ruin it.

indeed, it's a good game , but to say its the best shooter ever , or worse , to say its the best game ever.....those who say this know anything 'bout games.

I must admit, after playing a few hours of Halo MP, I like it a lot more than I ever did when I actually owned it. Very fun, good map design.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the single player campaign. It is repetitive, the graphics are quite poor, there is about 3 textures, and overall it's just plain generic. The much lauded story is quite stupid and I couldn't figure out what was so special about the "flood twist" that the gaming press (and some Halo fanboyz) spoke so highly of.

That being said, I'm going to pre-order Halo 2 off Ebgames.com. Xbox Live play could very well make this the definative CONSOLE shooter. It still cannot hope to hold a candle to such classics as Deus Ex, Unreal Tournament (2004), and others, but it should be an excellent game nonetheless. The single player campaign seems to have been remedied this time 'round as well, though I can't say for sure if it's better, since I haven't played the game.

I still like Goldeneye for my console FPS multiplayer. Does everything Halo does, and it's cheaper and quite a bit of fun.

  6. Must agree with Deathcoaster, Tachikoma, and Antipasta - I'm not a huge Halo fan. Granted, it's good, but not as good as everyone here seems to think. The thing about Halo 2 that has me the most excited is the fact that the money this game will make on it's opening day is going to blow away even the top-selling movie blockbusters here in the states. This is an awesome sign of the strength of the industry, that it isn't the 'computer toys for little kids' it was commonly viewed as ten years ago.

I suppose I would be a little more excited if it were being released on the PC, as that's what I played through the original Halo on, and once I did that, I never wanted to go back to the XBox version - the control afforded by a keyboard and mouse just blow away the big black bricks.

They now have a keyboard/mouse adapter for the Xbox, named the Smartjoy Frag. TBH, I'm not pleased that Lik-Sang came out with this. No, I'm not "teh l33t," but it pisses me off that they make a $28 device that not all people will have access to. That is, if they even know about it. I think everyone should be on an equal playing field. On a PC, everyone has a keyboard and mouse, and regardless of how expensive it is, they are all still pretty similar.

I dunno, but something just pisses me off about it. Maybe it shouldn't, but I don't think it's Lik-Sang's job to create a bunch of players who will be better because of the mouse/keyboard. Granted, most people will play it with the pad.

Now, if the adapter was officially sanctioned by MS, I don't think I'd have a problem with it, as then more people would know about it. Hard to say. Maybe it's similar to using an X-Arcade stick online to whoop someone's ass at MK: Deception. Then again, any fighter worth his salt has one of those sticks or something similar.

End rambling. Sorry, but it was something that was eating at me. :smt042

Strange point of view. It sounds like you're irritated that $28 worth of kit can dramatically improve your playing ability - why not just buy it, then? Surely the only real loser here is Microsoft, for not bringing a similar product to market by now?

I can afford it--I have a Paypal account and access to Lik-Sang etc. but I think a lot of people won't know about it. So it's almost like cheating, when only 5% of the people online will have it.

I dunno, it was just a rant. Something gets at me for some reason. :smt083

I agree. Deus Ex murders Halo in terms of story. I didn't really even much care for Halo's story, it was the atmosphere of the game (two particular levels being Assault on the Control Room and Two Betrayals) that amazed me.

  15. Agreed, Deus Ex has possibly one of the best stories in a video game, ever. Halo's wasn't bad, as it kept me entertained thoughout the whole experience, but it's nothing as awesome as Deus Ex's.
